Scrubs Revival Season 2: Release Date, Story, & Everything We Know

With the first season of the Scrubs revival now complete on ABC, viewers are eager to see what happens next. The show, which returned in February 2026, has been well-received by critics. The two-episode premiere was also a hit with audiences, drawing 11.36 million viewers across both streaming and traditional TV within its first five days.

The recent successful launch proves there’s still strong interest in Scrubs after it originally aired from 2001 to 2010. Creator Bill Lawrence and showrunner Aseem Batra did a great job combining returning favorites with new characters at Sacred Heart Hospital. Now, fans are eagerly waiting to find out what’s next in Scrubs season 2.

ABC Has Renewed Scrubs For Season 11 (Season 2 Of The Revival)

Great news for fans! ABC has officially ordered a second season of the Scrubs revival, announced in late April 2026. If you see the original series and the revival as one continuous show, this new season will be considered season 11.

The show’s renewal was announced just two weeks after the first season of the Scrubs revival finished airing on ABC. Considering that some networks take months to decide whether to continue a show, Scrubs fans were lucky to find out its fate so quickly.

When The Scrubs Revival Is Expected To Release On ABC

I’m excited to share that Scrubs season 2 will be back as a midseason show on ABC for the 2026-2027 TV season, just like season 3 of Shifting Gears! We don’t have a firm date yet, but if ABC follows the pattern from season 1, we can probably expect the new season to start around February 2027. I’m already counting down the days!

Because the second season of Scrubs will probably be released mid-season, it’s likely to have around nine episodes, similar to the first revival season. However, if ABC releases the next season before late February 2027, they might be able to add a few extra episodes.

What Scrubs Season 11’s Story Could Be

The tenth season of Scrubs ended with a few storylines still open, and a potential eleventh season could have picked them up. One of the biggest was the health of Perry Cox, played by John C. McGinley, who was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease in the episode “My Odds.” While Zach Braff’s character, J.D. Dorian, mentioned the disease had a good survival rate, Cox’s test results weren’t great, which understandably worried his mentor, J.D.

Bill Lawrence, known for his recent work on the HBO Max series Rooster with John C. McKinley, has assured fans that Dr. Cox will still be a part of Scrubs. According to McGinley, he might even be able to appear in more episodes next season, as the filming schedules for Scrubs and Rooster should no longer conflict. This is logical, given that Dr. Cox’s ongoing treatment will continue at Sacred Heart.

J.D.’s problems are far from over. The season 10 finale revealed that the hospital’s maintenance man is the son of his old enemy, The Janitor. Both men were upset when J.D. seemed to imply the maintenance man only got the job through family connections. It doesn’t matter if they’re truly related or not – Scrubs now has a new antagonist.

Things are looking up for J.D. in his love life, with a connection forming between him and Charlie from Rachel Bilson’s show. Meanwhile, Ava Bunn’s Tosh and Jason Dudman’s Asher are also developing a potential romance, and Elliot, played by Sarah Chalke, is dating a pilot named Wes. That makes at least three new relationships to follow in season 11. Additionally, Lawrence mentioned in March 2026 that the Scrubs team would try to bring Ken Jenkins back as Dr. Bob Kelso if the revival series moved forward.
