Pedro Pascal and his little green companion are embarking on a fresh adventure, complete with a new job. The first half-hour of the story does a great job of establishing everything that’s coming.
Din works to eliminate those who are trying to maintain the Empire’s control over the galaxy. He isn’t officially part of the rebellion, but he takes assignments from Colonel Ward (Sigourney Weaver). Their first mission takes them to a snowy planet where a man is controlling local leaders and their resources to prolong the Empire’s influence – complete with a pro-Empire slogan. However, this control doesn’t last for long.
Mando and Grogu Come to Stop the Empire
Okay, so the action in this episode of The Mandalorian feels very familiar – in a good way! At first, it’s all quick glimpses of Din Djarin working from the shadows, a really stealthy approach. But then, when the moment hits, he bursts into the fray and it’s fantastic. He’s expertly taking down stormtroopers left and right, and Grogu even steps up to intercept a fleeing droid. It all culminates in a truly epic chase scene – seriously, Din and Grogu are going up against AT-AT walkers! It’s a spectacle you don’t want to miss.
The man made a run for it, heading towards the AT-AT walkers. Din and Grogu gave chase, destroying two of the three walkers before the man escaped in a small pod, leaving behind a dangerous trail of bombs. Now, Din has to quickly try and shoot down the pod while Grogu keeps tapping his helmet, urgently reminding him about the ticking bombs. It’s a cute but stressful situation!
Mando finally manages to shoot down the enemy ship, and he and Grogu head to meet Zeb, who’s waiting nearby. This all happens during the opening minutes of the story, as the credits roll while they travel back to base so Mando can talk to Colonel Ward.
A New Mission
The show generally establishes Din Djarin and Grogu as bounty hunters targeting those still profiting from the fallen Empire. However, they receive a new assignment from Ward: travel to the Hutts and locate Rotta the Hutt (played by Jeremy Allen White). The Hutts think Rotta has disappeared, and their only clue is an old picture of him as a young Huttlet. They hire Din and Grogu to find him and bring him back home.
There doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with Rotta. When Din and Grogu locate him, they discover he’s participating in a fighting competition, similar to the battle between Thor and the Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok. He’s a local celebrity, known as a cook who Din seeks information from, as depicted in Martin Scorsese’s Hugo.
The scene closes with Din and Grogu observing a deadly fight between Rotta the Hutt and another man, leading them to understand that Rotta isn’t being held captive – he’s in control.
The clip offers a fantastic conclusion to what we’ve seen so far, and it’s sure to get fans eager for the release of The Mandalorian & Grogu in theaters on May 22nd.
