Spider-Man 4 Villain Theory Could See a Surprising MCU Debut

A new fan theory regarding Spider-Man 4’s villain could bring about an exciting MCU debut.

The highly anticipated Spider-Man: Brand New Day, jointly produced by Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures, is currently being filmed. Known for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Destin Daniel Cretton will be at the helm as director for this upcoming superhero movie. Once again, Tom Holland will step into the shoes of Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

To date, no information has been shared about who the primary villain in Spider-Man 4 might be. However, it is confirmed that Michael Mando will reprise his role as Mac Gargan/Scorpion, making his first MCU appearance since Spider-Man: Homecoming. Yet, it seems unlikely that he will serve as the main antagonist.

What villain could debut in Spider-Man 4?

This past month, I came across an intriguing Twitter post featuring a “mood board” crafted by the talented costume prop modeler, Monica Avitto, that offered a sneak peek into the sinister style of the movie’s antagonist.

Instead of implying that the moodboard might refer to Silver Samurai, an emerging idea that’s gaining traction on social media, as discussed by @DrawsTom, hints at the potential antagonist for Spider-Man 4 being none other than Alistair Smythe, more famously recognized as Spider-Slayer.

Daniel Richtman, the scooper in question, considered this to be an excellent hypothesis, but it doesn’t guarantee that Spider-Slayer will appear in the film. As of now, neither Marvel nor Sony have officially verified this speculation.

Introduced by Louise Simonson and Mary Wilshire back in 1985’s “The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #19”, Alistair Smythe is known for his exceptional skills in robotics. He inherited the Spider-Slayer legacy from his father and, after becoming paralyzed from the waist down, operates a bioorganic armor. In the animated series “Spider-Man: The Animated Series”, he was voiced by Maxwell Caulfield, while in 2014’s “The Amazing Spider-Man 2”, he was portrayed on screen by B. J. Novak.

In American cinemas on July 31, 2026, Spider-Man 4 will make its debut, being a part of Phase 6 in the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline.
