Lee Cronin’s The Mummyis officially a blessing for Blumhouse and New Cinema Line.
The new Mummy film from Blumhouse debuted about two weeks ago and brought in $13.5 million during its opening weekend. That’s a solid start, especially considering it had been nine years since the last Mummy movie was released. Despite competition from films like The Devil Wears Prada 2 and Michael, the horror movie has continued to perform well.
Deadline reports that Lee Cronin’s The Mummy has now earned $80 million worldwide after three weeks in cinemas. While it’s made $27.4 million domestically, the film is doing particularly well internationally, accounting for $52.6 million – or 65.7% – of the total earnings.
Lee Cronin’s The Mummy is proving to be a success at the box office. With a production budget of just $22 million, the horror film has already earned enough to cover its costs and is now making a profit. The big question now is whether it can reach $100 million in total earnings before it leaves theaters. While this is possible, upcoming summer movie releases could affect its chances.
This box office success is a welcome sign for Blumhouse, as the studio had faced some financial setbacks last year. After films like Wolf Man and M3GAN 2.0 didn’t perform well, Blumhouse ended 2025 with two profitable movies: Black Phone 2 ($132 million) and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 ($239.6 million). Now, with Lee Cronin’s The Mummy also proving to be a hit, Blumhouse has a solid record of three consecutive successful releases.
Despite receiving mixed reviews – with a 47% score on Rotten Tomatoes – Lee Cronin’s The Mummy is doing well at the box office. Audiences clearly enjoyed Blumhouse’s new take on the classic, giving it a 74% audience score. Positive word-of-mouth helped the film maintain momentum, even with a typical drop in viewership of 59% during its second weekend.
This new version of Blumhouse is its most direct attempt at traditional horror, and its R-rating probably attracted fans of the genre. The relatively low budget also made it more likely to succeed financially, unlike big-budget blockbusters and action films – Tom Cruise’s 2017 movie, for instance, cost between $125 and $195 million to make.
As much as I’m excited for the new Mummy film, I don’t see it competing with the Brendan Fraser Mummy movies or even Tom Cruise’s attempt – those all made serious bank, over $400 million worldwide! This new Blumhouse version isn’t connected to those films at all, since they were all Universal productions. Because the original Mummy is now in the public domain, Warner Bros. – through New Line Cinema – had the freedom to create their own, separate take on the story without being tied to the classic Universal franchise.
Now that The Mummy with Lee Cronin is doing so well in theaters, everyone’s wondering what happens next! While Warner Bros. and Blumhouse haven’t officially said anything about a sequel, the director himself hinted that if people really love this new take on the franchise and its world, they’d definitely start talking about making more movies. It sounds promising if we, the fans, show our support!
Universal Pictures is bringing back its classic Mummy films with a fourth installment currently in the works. Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, and John Hannah are all set to reprise their roles, and the directing team of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (known as Radio Silence) are taking the helm. The movie is now scheduled to come out on October 15, 2027.
Lee Cronin’s The Mummy is now playing in theaters.
