Apple TV+’s show “Smoke” is just a few days away from its Season 1 conclusion on August 15, 2025, which is this coming Friday. If you’re one of the many eager fans wanting a sneak peek into how it might all end, you’ve found your destination! Here at TopMob, we have an exclusive clip for you to enjoy.
Viewers are likely still in shock following the dramatic turn of events in Episode 8, where Jurnee Smollett’s character Michelle apparently killed Rafe Spall’s Steven. Initially, it seemed like a typical heated altercation familiar to fans, but this time, Michelle inadvertently caused Steven’s death by compressing his windpipe. When given the opportunity to save him, she chose not to and let him perish instead. To conceal her actions, she even set fire to the house, making it appear that Taron Egerton’s Dave Gudsen was responsible for the crime.
In the newly released segment from Apple TV+’s series (available for viewing below), Michelle Calderone and Dave Gudsen are seen engaging in a verbal sparring match at the police station. Their interaction is reminiscent of circling wolves, symbolizing their competitive dynamics and potential tension.
Although Episode 9 might serve as the final episode, it’s unlikely to offer a definitive conclusion for the entire series. In fact, the showrunner of Smoke, Dennis Lehane, expressed his desire to extend the show for another three seasons and has a clear vision of how these final chapters will unfold.
TopMob had conversations with Lehand, Jurnee Smollett, and Rafe Spall regarding the surprising twist in Episode 8. Smollett described Michelle’s state of mind as being in a “frenzied state,” which led to her immobilization. In Michelle’s thoughts, she contemplated how it would be “so convenient” if he were no longer present. Smollett also verified that Michelle “definitely” experiences guilt and will carry this burden with her forever.
Rafe Spall admitted that Steve “[didn’t think] that she would be able to kill him.”
Author Dennis Lehane revealed that Michelle, the protagonist he created, was always intended to be a deeply troubled individual. He characterized her as both heroic in certain aspects and at the same time, extremely perilous and mentally unstable.
