Zach Cregger’s film, titled “Weapons,” has been generating quite a buzz since its release a week ago. In no time at all, the internet has been filled with discussions and speculations about its characters and plot, which revolves around 17 children disappearing. However, it is none other than Aunt Gladys who seems to be the center of attention in all these conversations. People can’t seem to get enough of her actions and motivations, as they delve deeper into understanding her character. She plays a pivotal role in the movie.
The story reveals Gladys’ reasons for doing things and her relationship with the children.
The story sheds light on Gladys’ motivations and her bond with the children.
What did Gladys want to do with the kids in Weapons?
At the outset of the film, we learn that 17 children vanish mysteriously during the night, leaving everyone puzzled about their whereabouts and motive. The narrative then focuses on Marcus, introducing us to Alex’s aunt, Gladys, at this point. Interestingly, Alex is the sole child from his class who remains unaccounted for. It soon becomes evident that Gladys has powers allowing her to manipulate people, which piques your suspicion as a viewer in connection with the missing children. However, you wonder what could possibly motivate her to perform such actions.
It’s revealed that Gladys is an elderly woman who practices witchcraft, using spells to primarily absorb people’s energy for her own health restoration. The film suggests she has been doing this for a prolonged period, possibly much older than her outward appearance indicates. Initially, she manipulates Alex’s parents, but when it proves unsuccessful, she requests that Alex bring a personal item from each of his classmates. He agrees in the belief that this might force her to leave their home and free his parents from the spell.
As a cinephile, I’d rephrase it like this:
Every evening, I, Gladys, follow my special routine to draw the children towards my abode. Once they’re here, they find themselves confined in the basement, under my constant sway. Day by day, I’m regaining my vigor, and with each passing moment, I’m leaving an indelible imprint on these young minds. However, it doesn’t take long for Justine and Archer to sense that something is amiss at Alex’s place. Upon arriving at the house, chaos erupts, marking a turning point in our story.
Weapons is still running in theaters.
