House of the Dragon Season 3 Will Officially Include 7 of Egg’s Relatives

As a huge fan, I’m so excited for House of the Dragon Season 3! It’s amazing to learn that seven of the main characters are actually connected to Egg from A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and that this season will set up a lot of what happens with him later in the A Song of Ice and Fire story. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms really brought me – and a lot of other Game of Thrones fans – back into the world and gave us hope for more. And the best part? It looks like we’re getting even more Westeros content, because another show is planned for 2026 too! It’s a great time to be a fan.

The third season of House of the Dragon is scheduled to debut on HBO in June 2026, continuing the intense battle between Targaryen family members for control of the Iron Throne. Interestingly, many of the key characters in Season 3 have a direct connection to the character Egg, who appears in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

The next episode will feature a look at Egg’s extensive family history, including his great-great-great grandparents and many other relatives.

7 Main House of the Dragon Season 3 Characters Who Are Directly Related To Egg

Daemon Targaryen

Even with the very first character on the list, the typical complicated family relationships of the Targaryens are already apparent. Matt Smith’s Daemon Targaryen is connected to Egg (Aegon V) in several ways. He’s Egg’s many-times-great-grandfather because he married Rhaenyra Targaryen and had two sons with her, Viserys II and Aegon III. Viserys II later had Aegon IV – widely considered the worst king ever – who then had Daeron II (known as Daeron the Good). Daeron II had Maekar, and Maekar had Egg, completing the lineage.

Daemon was Viserys I’s brother and Rhaenyra’s uncle, making him Egg’s very distant great-great-great-great uncle.

Matt Smith, who plays Daemon Targaryen, hinted that his character will have a much larger role filled with more action in Season 3 of ‘House of the Dragon’. Despite being more central to the conflict, Daemon is still predicted to stay loyal to Rhaenyra.

Rhaenyra Targaryen

I’ve been following House of the Dragon, and it’s clear to me that Rhaenyra is really the central figure. The show started by diving deep into her life – we saw her during her mother’s difficult labor with Daemon, her mom’s death, and then how she became a contender for the Iron Throne. It’s fascinating because she’s married to Daemon (and he’s also her uncle!), and they have a son, Viserys II, which makes her the great-great-great-grandmother of Egg! It all connects in such a complex way.

Rhaenyra Targaryen will remain a central figure in Season 3. Based on the book’s storyline, several significant events are planned, and most of them will directly involve her.

Aegon II Targaryen

At the end of House of the Dragon Season 2, Aegon II Targaryen is the ruling king of Westeros. Although he’s a Targaryen like Rhaenyra and Daemon, his family connection to Egg is a little more complex.

Aegon and Rhaenyra share the same father, Viserys I, making them half-siblings. However, Aegon’s mother, Alicent Hightower, isn’t related to Rhaenyra’s son, Egg. This means Aegon is Egg’s half-uncle, but only distantly so.

By the end of Season 2, Aegon was in a difficult position. He’d barely survived a fight with his brother, Aemond, at Rook’s Rest, and had to leave King’s Landing to protect himself, meaning he couldn’t even claim his throne.

Rhaenyra and Aegon will both be central characters in Season 3. If the show stays true to the books by George R.R. Martin, we might see Aegon become much more enraged and threatening than before.

Aemond Targaryen

Aemond Targaryen is Aegon II’s brother, making him a distant uncle to Egg, just like Aegon. Of all of Alicent and Viserys’ children, Aemond is arguably the most unpleasant – and that’s high praise considering how difficult Aegon II is. Thankfully, Egg didn’t seem to inherit any of Aemond’s negative traits, which is good for everyone.

As a huge fan of the show, I’m really excited to see what they do with Aemond in Season 3. I mean, his move to Harrenhal at the end of last season felt like a huge turning point – a massive mistake that’s going to seriously escalate things in the Dance of the Dragons. And honestly, I’m counting down the days until the Battle Above the Gods Eye! If they do it right, that scene alone could be legendary, and Aemond is definitely going to be right in the thick of it.

Helaena Targaryen

Helaena is the sister of Aemond and Aegon II, making her a distant aunt to Egg. While she hasn’t had as much screen time in House of the Dragon as her brothers, her part in the story is still very significant.

Helaena has the ability to see the future, receiving prophetic visions of events to come. We saw this in Season 2 when she shared some of these visions with Aemond, and it’s likely we’ll see more in Season 3. Interestingly, Daeron, the brother of Aegon (known as Egg), also had this gift, foreseeing the death of Baelor Targaryen, as shown in the book A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. In the original stories, Egg himself later develops the ability to see the future, creating a further connection between him and Helaena.

George R.R. Martin may have accidentally revealed in a now-deleted blog post that Helaena will die in the third season. While it’s not certain if this will happen, it would undoubtedly have a major impact on the story.

Daeron Targaryen

Though Daeron Targaryen has been talked about in the first two seasons of House of the Dragon, we won’t actually see him until Season 3. The Season 3 trailer did give us a glimpse of his dragon, Tessarion. As a brother to Aemond, Aegon, and Helaena, Daeron is a distant uncle to the character known as Egg.

Interestingly, the name Daeron also belongs to one of Egg’s brothers in House of the Dragon. While they are distinct characters, they share the same name.

Baela Targaryen

In the TV series House of the Dragon, Baela Targaryen has a larger role than she did in the original book. While it’s uncertain what will happen with her character in Season 3, we do know she shares a distant family connection with a character named Egg.

Baela is the daughter of Daemon and Laena Velaryon, making her the half-sister of Viserys II. Consequently, she’d be a distant aunt to Egg.

Rhaena Targaryen

Rhaena is Baela’s sister, making her a distant aunt to Egg. At the end of House of the Dragon Season 2, Rhaena discovered the dragon Sheepstealer. In the books, a character named Nettles originally claimed Sheepstealer, but since Nettles isn’t in the show, Rhaena might end up following the same storyline as her in the books if she successfully bonds with the dragon.

While several characters in House of the Dragon are connected to Egg through family ties – Viserys II, for example, is his great-great-grandfather – these characters aren’t central to the show’s main storyline and probably won’t have significant roles in Season 3.
