As a huge sci-fi fan, I’ve been counting down the days for this new release, just like I was with Project Hail Mary! Everyone was so excited to finally see the alien in that movie, and I’m really hoping this one gives us a good look at its alien co-star too. The big question is, will they reveal the alien in a similar, grand way, or are they keeping things different this time around?
The celebrated filmmaker made his CinemaCon debut this week, receiving a huge ovation. He shared his creative process and gave audiences a preview of his upcoming film, Disclosure Day, which will be released in theaters worldwide on June 12th. A trailer was also shown, offering the first glimpse of the alien creature featured in Spielberg’s new sci-fi thriller.
Details about the alien threat are still largely hidden, but Steven Spielberg has offered a small preview, suggesting the upcoming trailer will reveal more to the public.
Disclosure Day Alien Isn’t Being Hidden by Steven Spielberg
The report details a video showing actress Emily Blunt playing a meteorologist who suddenly loses her ability to speak on live television. Commenting on the viral clip, O’Connor explains he can surprisingly decipher Blunt’s nonsensical speech, stating it actually appears to be mathematical equations.
As a film buff, I was really struck by the emotional scene between O’Connor and Blunt – the simple exchange of ‘I know you,’ ‘I know you, too’ felt incredibly powerful. Beyond that, the trailer delivered on the action front, with a thrilling sequence of Blunt attempting to leap from a speeding car onto a moving train! And just when you thought it couldn’t get any more exciting, the trailer ended with our first look at the movie’s alien creature – seriously cool stuff!
The new trailer seems to revisit scenes from the initial trailer released in late 2025. However, it’s exciting to see Spielberg giving the alien character more prominence, something he also did with his classic film, E.T.. Interestingly, that same approach – showing the alien openly – inspired the creators of Project Hail Mary to portray Rocky, the alien in their story, with similar honesty.
Spielberg: Get Your ‘Seat Belt’ For Disclosure Day
At CinemaCon, Spielberg recalled making Close Encounters of the Third Kind in 1977, his fifth film and the one that followed the huge success of Jaws. He pointed out that much of what was considered science fiction at the time now seems much more like real science.
Of course, that tends to often be the beauty of sci-fi, isn’t it?
Spielberg stated he felt confident releasing Disclosure Day, believing the film contains more truth than fabrication, and will premiere on June 12th. He anticipates the movie will both resolve existing questions and spark new ones, describing it as an immersive experience best enjoyed with an open mind – ‘all you need is a seat belt’.
Spielberg shared that he’s always been fascinated by what’s happening in the sky, both day and night, and he’ll be revealing his latest ideas about it this summer – so get ready!
