Get ready! Star Wars is back in theaters next month, with a new film premiering on May 22nd – it’s been seven years since the last one! The story picks up after the events of The Mandalorian Season 3, following Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu as they continue their journey through the galaxy’s criminal world.
The upcoming movie, The Mandalorian and Grogu, will feature familiar faces from Star Wars, like Garazeb Orrelios, Embo, and Rotta the Hutt. There’s potential for even more well-known characters to appear as the story unfolds, and their inclusion would fit well with the plot when the movie is released next month.
Luke Skywalker Needs to Return to the Big Screen
A Luke Skywalker appearance would be the most thrilling cameo in The Mandalorian and Grogu, aside from the actors already confirmed to return. As the hero who defeated the Empire, Luke is now dedicated to rebuilding the Jedi Order – the same order that Grogu left to stay with Din Djarin.
Even though Grogu isn’t training with Luke Skywalker anymore, their story isn’t over. Grogu still has a lot of potential with the Force that hasn’t been developed yet. Because Luke is one of the few who can help Grogu reach his full power at this time, it’s likely we’ll see Luke again in The Mandalorian and Grogu.
Boba Fett Deserves Redemption After His Spinoff Series
For years, Star Wars fans hoped to see Boba Fett return. He miraculously survived being swallowed by the Sarlaac pit, reclaimed his iconic armor, and took over Jabba the Hutt’s criminal empire in Mos Espa, becoming its new leader. However, much of this story happened off-screen. Since then, Lucasfilm hasn’t been clear about bringing Boba Fett back to Star Wars, suggesting his return might not happen at all.
Although there won’t be a second season of The Book of Boba Fett, the popular character is likely to reappear in The Mandalorian and Grogu. Boba Fett is a strong ally and friend to Din Djarin, and his skills could be valuable in the fight against the remaining Imperial forces. Bringing Fett back would also create an opportunity for Ming-Na Wen to reprise her role as Fennec Shand, his trusted partner.
Ezra Bridger Is Back and Ready for Action
Ezra Bridger is back! Trained as a Jedi after the Empire took power, Ezra was the Padawan learner of Caleb Dume. He played a key role in the beginning of the Rebellion, saving the galaxy from the villainous Grand Admiral Thrawn by sending him to a faraway galaxy. Sadly, Ezra had to sacrifice himself to do it, traveling with Thrawn into unknown parts of space.
In the first season of Ahsoka, Ezra Bridger is saved by Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren, allowing him to reunite with Hera Syndulla after a long separation since the end of Star Wars: Rebels. Ezra should appear in The Mandalorian and Grogu, even if just for a brief appearance, like playing some tricks on his former friend and teammate, Zeb Orrelios.
Hera Syndulla Is on a Desperate Mission to Save the Galaxy
Fans of Star Wars will likely remember Hera, who led a diverse group of heroes in the fight against the growing Empire. By the time of The Mandalorian and Grogu, she’s a general in the New Republic, but she’s becoming increasingly upset that the government won’t look into the remaining Imperial forces – especially with the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn.
Although characters like Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren are currently unavailable for The Mandalorian and Grogu because they’re stranded in another galaxy, bringing back Hera Syndulla would be a great way to connect the story to the Ahsoka Disney+ series. Hera knows about the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn and might seek help from Din Djarin and Grogu. This could naturally lead into the events of Ahsoka Season 2 and the movie Dave Filoni is making, which will focus on Thrawn’s conflict with the New Republic.
Hondo Ohnaka Fits Perfectly in The Mandalorian and Grogu’s Crime Story
Hondo Ohnaka is a beloved character first introduced in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Known for being a charming but completely unscrupulous pirate leader, Hondo has become one of the most popular characters to come from Star Wars animation. While he’s appeared in several Star Wars projects since The Clone Wars, he hasn’t yet been featured in a live-action film or series.
The upcoming film seems like the ideal opportunity to introduce the character Hondo Ohnaka into live-action. With the story focusing on the galaxy’s criminal side – featuring Din Djarin and Grogu tracking down crime bosses, bounty hunters, and pirates – Hondo would be a natural fit. His personality would create a fun dynamic alongside the serious and reserved Mandalorian.
Mon Mothma Offers a Connection to the New Republic
Mon Mothma leads the New Republic during the time of The Mandalorian and Grogu. She was a Senator before the Empire took over and continued to be a public figure, secretly supporting the Rebellion. Eventually, she became a key leader in the Alliance. As shown in the Ahsoka series on Disney+, Mon Mothma is now the elected Chancellor of the New Republic, making her the most powerful person in the galaxy when The Mandalorian and Grogu takes place.
Mon Mothma has quickly become a beloved character, and Disney and Lucasfilm have a great opportunity to feature her more in future Star Wars stories. While she successfully fought against the Empire, she now faces a surprisingly similar challenge in the era of the New Republic. The Mandalorian and Grogu could really benefit from bringing Mon Mothma back, as she’s becoming a key figure connecting all the different Star Wars shows and movies.
Migs Mayfeld Was a Surprising Highlight of The Mandalorian
Pedro Pascal wasn’t initially known for his role in The Mandalorian, but he quickly won over fans in just two episodes. He plays Migs Mayfeld, a mercenary with a hidden past as an Imperial soldier. While working with Din Djarin in Season 2, Mayfeld shares the emotional scars from his time with the Empire, adding unexpected depth to his character.
Though Migs Mayfeld didn’t appear in Season 3 of The Mandalorian, there’s still a chance he could be back for the upcoming movie. He and Din Djarin became friends by the end of his storyline, making him a potentially helpful ally on future adventures. Many fans would enjoy seeing Bill Burr reprise his role in The Mandalorian and Grogu, even if it’s just a brief appearance.
Bo-Katan Still Has Stories Left to Tell in the Star Wars Universe
Bo-Katan Kryze, the former princess of Mandalore, played a key role in The Mandalorian series, striving to bring her people together and reclaim their home planet. By the end of Season 3, she achieved this goal, successfully retaking Mandalore and becoming its new leader.
Despite some fans being disappointed with Season 3 of The Mandalorian, the new movie can’t ignore what happened. Bo-Katan Kryze has a strong connection to Din Djarin and the other Mandalorians, and it would be strange to exclude her from their future adventures. Viewers will likely be eager to see what’s become of Mandalore and how Bo-Katan is doing after the events of last season.
Yoda May Have More Details About Grogu’s Past
In the world of Star Wars, Yoda is the most likely character to hold the key to understanding Grogu’s origins. He was a powerful Jedi Master who lived on Coruscant and survived the devastating Order 66. After retreating to Dagobah, he finished training Luke Skywalker and peacefully passed away. Even though he’s been gone for years by the time of The Mandalorian and Grogu, he could provide answers to some important questions about Grogu.
Yoda is one of the few characters in Star Wars who shares Grogu’s species, making him the most probable source of information about Grogu’s origins and potential family. Some previews for The Mandalorian and Grogu show Grogu trying to meditate, which might suggest he will connect with Yoda’s spirit through the Force.
Grand Admiral Thrawn Is Star Wars’ New Big Bad
Fans believe that Grand Admiral Thrawn needs to appear in The Mandalorian and Grogu‘s story. Thrawn was a key strategist during the Empire’s growth, but he was sent to a faraway galaxy and didn’t participate in the main Galactic Civil War. He recently returned in the Disney+ series Ahsoka, and plans to rebuild the Empire with his dedicated army.
As a critic, I’m excited about where things are headed with the Star Wars universe, especially with projects like Ahsoka Season 2 and Dave Filoni’s upcoming Heir to the Empire film, which seem poised to really dive into the conflict with the New Republic. But The Mandalorian and Grogu can’t just sit this one out. Din Djarin and Grogu need to be part of the fight against Thrawn, even if other characters have a more personal stake. Honestly, The Mandalorian and Grogu feels like the ideal platform to build anticipation for Thrawn’s grand return – even a brief appearance would be incredibly effective in generating buzz.
The Mandalorian and Grogu opens in theaters on May 22.
