For actors, landing a role in a Star Wars movie used to be a career highlight. More recently, superhero films have become incredibly popular, giving performers another great opportunity. James Gunn, who leads DC Studios, likes to consider what Lucasfilm—the company behind Star Wars—is doing when he’s choosing actors for his DC projects.

Adria Arjona, who gained recognition for her role as Bix Caleen in the popular Star Wars series Andor, has been cast as the alien queen Maxima in Man of Tomorrow. This isn’t the first time she’s worked with director James Gunn – they previously collaborated on The Belko Experiment in 2016. But her impressive performance in Andor likely helped secure her the role alongside David Corenswet and the rest of the cast. With this new role, Arjona joins a select group of actors who have appeared in both the DC Universe and the Star Wars galaxy.
Actors That Appear in Star Wars & The DCU
Aaron Pierre

DC Studios is heavily investing in the Green Lantern universe. We’ve already seen Guy Gardner in the recent Superman movie, and Hal Jordan will get another chance in the HBO series Lanterns. However, the spotlight will truly be on John Stewart, portrayed by Aaron Pierre, who will become a Green Lantern in Lanterns and then team up with Aronja in a future project called Man of Tomorrow.
While Pierre will be returning for another Superman movie in 2027, he’s also joining the cast of Star Wars: Starfighter alongside Ryan Gosling and Amy Adams, who previously played Lois Lane. Details about his character are currently unknown, but he’s expected to be a significant presence in the film.
Naomi Ackie

Everyone loves superheroes, but often the villains have the most compelling stories. DC Studios is recognizing this by creating a movie focused on the Batman villain, Clayface. Tom Rhys Harries will star as Clayface, and Naomi Ackie will play a potentially dangerous scientist operating in Gotham City.
For Ackie, acting opposite a clay monster is familiar territory. She previously worked with numerous alien characters while playing Jannah in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. She even reprised her role as a Jedi version of the character for the animated series Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy.
Alan Tudyk

Let me tell you, James Gunn clearly adores Alan Tudyk, and with good reason. The guy is a chameleon – he completely transforms for every role, yet somehow manages to feel instantly relatable. Their working relationship is clearly special, because Tudyk’s already snagged a bunch of parts in Gunn’s new DC Universe. He’s voicing not one, but two characters in Creature Commandos, and he’s even playing one of Superman’s robotic helpers in the upcoming Superman film. It’s great to see that kind of loyalty and trust paying off creatively.
It likely wasn’t a stretch for Alan Tudyk to play Gary, given his experience portraying the metallic character K-2SO in both Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Andor, along with a few other roles.
Indira Varma

After news of the Suicide Squad leaked, Amanda Waller disbanded it and created the Creature Commandos to handle covert operations. Though initially reluctant, The Bride, voiced by Indira Varma, quickly became a mentor to her teammates. The season finale hinted that she’s destined to lead the team, suggesting a significant role for the character going forward.
Though she wasn’t a central character in Obi-Wan Kenobi, Varma’s role was still significant. She played Tala Durith, an Imperial officer who risked everything to help Force-sensitive people escape the Empire. Ultimately, she gave her life to ensure Obi-Wan Kenobi and his companions could safely continue their journey.
Dee Bradley Baker

It’s easy to overlook that animal characters in TV shows and movies need voice actors to create their sounds. Dee Bradley Baker voices Eagly, the best friend of Christopher Smith in Peacemaker. While Eagly had a smaller part in the first season, Baker had to expand his performance in Season 2 when Eagly became the Prime Eagle.
As a Star Wars fan, I have to say, Doug Chiang’s work on the Clone Troopers across The Clone Wars, The Bad Batch, and Rebels was truly exceptional. He didn’t just design them; he developed them, giving so much depth to characters we already loved – Captain Rex and Crosshair, in particular, really benefited from his vision. He took these soldiers beyond being just background figures and made them feel like real people.
Peter Serafinowicz

Similar to the original story by Mary Shelley, the DC Universe’s version of The Bride was created by the scientist Victor Frankenstein. But bringing such a villain to life required a special actor – someone who could convincingly play a truly dark character. James Gunn and his team chose Peter Serafinowicz, who is well-known for his ability to portray villains.
Before Sam Witwer took on the role, Peter Serafinowicz originally voiced Darth Maul in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. He later reprised the part for Solo: A Star Wars Story, but his performance was ultimately replaced by Witwer just before the film’s release.
Tim Meadows

Okay, let’s talk about Peacemaker Season 2. While we got a few new faces at ARGUS, Tim Meadows absolutely stole the show as Langston Fleury. His ‘bird blindness’ was hilarious, but watching him eventually bond with Eagly and become part of Chris’s team – forming Checkmate! – was genuinely heartwarming. I’m seriously excited to see where they take his character next; he’s got huge potential.
Ginnifer Goodwin’s role on Praise Petey likely offers James Gunn a reliable job, as it’s doubtful Lucasfilm will offer him another opportunity soon. He previously appeared in one episode of The Mandalorian as Colonel Tuttle, a by-the-book New Republic official.
David Harbour

Now that Stranger Things has finished, David Harbour is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Red Guardian in the next two Avengers films. He’s also working with DC, having been chosen by James Gunn to play Eric Frankenstein in Creature Commandos. The show featured Frankenstein’s monster desperately searching for his bride, who ultimately didn’t reciprocate his feelings.
As if two big superhero roles weren’t enough, Harbour also has one Star Wars project under his belt. He voiced Tajin Crosser, a Jedi Master during the Republic Era, in the English dub of the Star Wars: Visions episode “The Edler.”
