Sony Pictures unveiled new footage from Spider-Man: Brand New Day at CinemaCon, a movie industry event. The studio kicked off CinemaCon with a presentation on April 13th, and Brand New Day was a key highlight, featuring exclusive clips. Unfortunately, because CinemaCon is only for industry professionals, this footage won’t be available online, and fans will have to rely on descriptions for now.
At CinemaCon 2026, Sony gave a special preview of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, showing a clip that reveals the emotional consequences Peter Parker (played by Tom Holland) is dealing with following the events of No Way Home.
The scene opens with Peter inside his neighborhood corner store, likely writing and revising the emotional message he intends to send to M.J., just like in the trailer.
Peter is surprised to run into his former friend, Ned Leeds (played by Jacob Batalon), but Ned doesn’t recognize him because of Doctor Strange’s spell. Ned simply walks into the store to buy beer and a keg, completely oblivious to Peter.

Peter tagged along with Ned to a lively college party. It was the typical scene – red plastic cups, twinkling lights, and the song “Loser” by Tame Impala playing, which seemed perfectly fitting.
While Peter is looking around the apartment, Ned arrives and shows him a board covered in notes and pictures related to Spider-Man. He explains that Spider-Man saved his and his friends’ lives back in high school, and he’s been trying to find him ever since, hoping to thank him personally.
So, you’ve found my post. Let me assure you, I’m completely normal! This guy actually saved my friends and me back in high school, and I’ve been trying to find out who he is ever since. I don’t want to reveal his identity to anyone else, I just want to be able to thank him in person.
Ned explains he built an app called Spidey Tracker, which Peter is already familiar with. Peter is surprised to discover his friend is the creator, and that it includes a chatroom.
Ned’s investigation has led him to firmly believe Spider-Man is from Queens. He’s even mistakenly focused on two unlikely possibilities: Tony Revolori, who plays Flash Thompson, and Martin Starr, who plays Mr. Harrington.

Then comes Zendaya as M.J. Her appearance leads into the well-known scene that ended the official trailer – the moment Peter gives her flowers he picked up at the party as a welcome gift.
She thought it was “pretty interesting” that so many people – around 50 – were crammed into their apartment, and jokingly added that, statistically, at least a couple of them were likely sociopaths.
Okay, so the introductions are a riot. When Ned and M.J. meet Peter, he panics and gives a fake name – he actually starts to say “May,” as a little nod to Marisa Tomei, who plays Aunt May, but quickly catches himself and goes with “Maynard.” It’s a funny little moment. Then, Ned’s totally thrown when M.J. doesn’t recognize their guest, just like he doesn’t, and he awkwardly introduces himself as “a neighbor from across the hall.” It’s all just wonderfully awkward teenage energy.

M.J. recently received a job offer and aced the interview, but she decided to decline it because she doesn’t want to work for a company she feels lacks heart.
I found a really sweet moment when M.J., now in the kitchen, talks about feeling like something amazing is about to happen. And wouldn’t you know it, right as she says that, her boyfriend – played by Eman Esfandi, who you might recognize from Ahsoka – walks in and tells her the wait is finally over. It’s a charming setup, and I’m curious to see what that ‘something great’ turns out to be!
M.J. seems happy with her new boyfriend, even though many people dislike him, but Peter walks in on them kissing and leaves the party with a broken heart.

Sony finished their CinemaCon presentation with a collection of clips from their upcoming film, Brand New Day. Most of the footage was already seen in the trailer, featuring plenty of action sequences, but didn’t include any new glimpses of the villains, including Sadie Sink’s character. The montage ended with a voiceover monologue – many believe it’s Keith David – saying:
Spiders go through three distinct stages in their lives. The transitions between these stages can be dangerous, leaving them exposed to threats. However, for those that survive, it’s like a fresh start, a complete renewal.
A new scene shows Spider-Man joking with Damage Control officers while briefly stretching, saying, “I’m not in high school anymore.” Reports suggest these officers might be mind-controlled and planning a dangerous escape from prison.
With the release of Brand New Day just around the corner on July 31st, Sony Pictures has revealed two new teaser posters. The first poster has a similar feel to those used in the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man films, featuring a close-up of Spider-Man’s mask with the New York City skyline in the background. You can also see a reflection of Zendaya’s character, M.J., in the mask’s lenses.

The latest poster for the film shows Tom Holland’s Spider-Man leaping down onto ninjas and members of the Hand – the group from the Netflix series Daredevil, Iron Fist, and The Defenders. This suggests they’ll have a bigger role in the movie than previously expected.

Sony Pictures CEO Tim Rothman described their new film, Brand New Day, as both incredibly ambitious and unlike anything they’ve done before. He specifically highlighted director Destin Daniel Cretton, praising his exceptional work and calling it a remarkable achievement.
Look, I’ve seen a lot of Spider-Man movies, and honestly, the buzz around Tom Holland’s performance in this new one, Brand New Day, is really building. He couldn’t be at the event, but sent a video, and he really emphasized just how much fun the action sequences are. Apparently, they did a lot of it practically, finding some innovative new techniques. But it’s not just thrills; Holland promised this film is the most emotionally resonant Spider-Man movie yet, and a real step towards a more mature tone. It sounds like they’re aiming for something special here, and I’m definitely intrigued.
