The popular ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will close in early 2026 to be completely redesigned. Originally launched in 1999 with a theme centered around the band Aerosmith, it will be reimagined with characters from The Muppets as Disney updates the park.

Changes to the Attraction

The ride’s basic structure – the track and ride system – will stay the same. But Disney is completely revamping the experience with a new story, a redesigned pre-ride area, and fresh audio. The new theme will feature The Muppets, including appearances by the band Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem.

While waiting in line, guests will get a glimpse behind the scenes at G-Force Studios. Then, they’ll join the band on their exciting trip across Los Angeles as they head to a concert—a setup that mirrors the fast-paced action of the original ride.

Recent construction at the attraction has removed all references to the band Aerosmith, including signs, decorations, and themed features. Crews are still working on the inside of the ride, including the show scenes and the area guests experience before the ride begins.

Music Remains a Key Element

Music is a key part of the Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster ride. Previously, each car played a different Aerosmith song, which meant no two rides were exactly the same.

The new version of the attraction will likely follow a similar style to the original. However, Disney hasn’t said exactly how many songs will be featured, or whether they’ll be new, classic, or remixes.

Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem have been a part of many Muppets shows and movies. They’re known for their music, which combines rock, funk, and blues. Their next album is expected to showcase this variety, but the exact songs haven’t been announced yet.

“Song 2” by Blur

Disney revealed that The Electric Mayhem will perform a cover of Blur’s 1997 hit, “Song 2,” as part of the music for the updated Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster ride.

The song is a little over two minutes long and has a high-energy, guitar-heavy sound with a straightforward arrangement. It’s best known for starting suddenly and its catchy, repeated “woo-hoo” chorus.

Timeline and Remaining Questions

Disney hasn’t given a specific date for when the attraction will reopen, only saying it will be sometime in summer 2026. But many Disney fans believe the newly updated ride might open around Memorial Day weekend.

When the song list is revealed, we’ll probably get a better idea of the overall sound and style of the project.

Disney typically shares updates through its official channels.
