Based on my personal observations, I believe that truly remarkable romantic relationships are forged between individuals who cherish experiencing exhilarating and heart-stopping moments together. Similarly, I hold great esteem and appreciation for couples like Dave Franco and Alison Brie from the show “Together“, as they collaborate to produce instances of excitement and awe for others.
The married couple in question aren’t exactly newcomers to the horror genre as a duo, having appeared together in films of terror. Their authentic screen chemistry in the upcoming 2025 movie is so compelling that I can’t help but hope they aren’t the only real-life couple to star in such productions. To kick off my brief overview of influential Hollywood couples who have graced our screens with some chilling romantic flicks, let me start with the stars of the film Together.
Dave Franco And Alison Brie (Together)
In recent times, films such as the Academy Award-winning “The Substance” and “The Ugly Stepsister” have opened up an era of exceptional body horror films, with Michael Shanks’ latest offering, “Together”, continuing this trend. This upcoming horror production features Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, who experience an unsettling closeness when a strange power inexplicably fuses them physically.
As a devoted movie enthusiast, I must say that Franco and Larson’s performances in “Together” leave you questioning the real-life dynamics of their characters’ relationship. Even before the supernatural twists come into play, they depict the complexities of their bond so authentically that it’s hard not to ponder about their off-screen marriage.
By the film’s end, their on-screen chemistry shines brighter than ever, making this peculiar and disquieting thriller not only entertaining but also heartwarming and emotional. In essence, “Together” proves to be a thought-provoking and deeply moving cinematic experience.

John Krasinski And Emily Blunt (A Quiet Place)
In my opinion, the 2018 film “A Quiet Place” showcases a remarkably original idea for an alien invasion movie: a world dominated by malicious aliens that can’t see but are highly sensitive to sound, forcing the remnants of humanity to live in silence. I think the reason it’s so effectively chilling is due to the compelling performances by John Krasinski, who also co-writes and directs, as well as Emily Blunt.
The power couple, Lee and Evelyn Abbott, married in 2010 and since then have welcomed two children into their family. They show a deep, genuine devotion towards each other and will go to great lengths to safeguard their loved ones. If Krasinski hadn’t chosen his real-life wife as his onscreen partner, the suspenseful battle between man and monster in the film might not have possessed the gripping intensity that made it an iconic sci-fi movie.

Jeff Goldblum And Geena Davis (The Fly)
In a unique twist for body horror films, “Together” marks one where both main characters, portrayed by a real-life couple, undergo identical gruesome experiences. Unlike David Cronenberg’s 1986 adaptation of “The Fly,” where Jeff Goldblum’s Dr. Seth Brundle transforms into a hybrid creature while his love, Ronnie Quaife (played by Geena Davis), merely observes the horrifying metamorphosis from afar, feeling only shock and sorrow.
Goldblum and Davis were in a relationship during the filming of the highly regarded horror movie remake, having first met on the set of the 1985 horror-comedy film titled Transylvania 6-5000. They got married the year after, but parted ways in 1990, as reported by People. Despite their divorce, their genuine love for each other seems to have endured, as evidenced by their appearance at the 2024 SAG Awards. This deep affection is palpable on screen, making The Fly one of horror’s most indelible romantic tragedies.

David Arquette And Courtney Cox (The Scream Movies)
Experiencing the Scream movie series chronologically feels captivating as it masterfully weaves together two intriguing timelines within pop culture. As I delve deeper into subsequent films, I’m struck by how they showcase the innovative transformation of the horror genre itself. Moreover, it offers a unique perspective on the evolving bond between two renowned actors, David Arquette and Courteney Cox, who have become synonymous with this iconic franchise.
In the original “Scream” movie in 1996, Courtney Cox (who played Gale Weathers) and David Arquette (Dewey Riley) started dating while filming. They got married during the production of the third movie, but divorced before appearing together as a married couple in “Scream 4” in 2011. Despite their divorce, they remained close friends, as evidenced by their reunion to play estranged characters in “Scream” (2022). Tragically, Dewey met his end at the hands of Ghostface in that movie. Interestingly, Arquette has been cast in “Scream 7”, suggesting that the story of Dewey and Gale may continue.

Freddie Prinze Jr. And Sarah Michelle Gellar (I Know What You Did Last Summer)
In the realm of ’90s slasher movies, it wasn’t just “Scream” where romance blossomed off-screen. For instance, in “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” while Freddie Prinze Jr.’s character Ray Bronson was smitten with Jennifer Love Hewitt’s Julie James, the truth lies elsewhere. In reality, he harbored feelings for our very own Sarah Michelle Gellar, their on-screen co-star.
In 1997, while working together on a thriller, they fell in love. They got married in 2002, which was also the year they played Fred and Daphne in the first live-action Scooby-Doo movie and shared their iconic kiss. Unfortunately, Sarah Michelle Gellar’s character did not survive the first Summer, preventing a reunion for the sequel in 1998. However, she made an unexpected appearance in the 2025 reboot through a dream sequence, which allowed her and Fred (Prinze) to enjoy a family vacation in Australia during the filming of the reboot. Gellar even shared this experience with the Australian Today show.

Eli Roth And Lorenza Izzo (Aftershock)
From 2014 until their divorce in 2018, after being married for four years, Eli Roth (known for his work in horror) and actor-model Lorenza Izzo were one of the most influential couples in the genre. They worked together on various projects such as Netflix’s Hemlock Grove, The Green Inferno, Knock Knock, and The House with a Clock in Its Walls. Their partnership started with the disaster thriller Aftershock, released in 2012.
As a passionate movie aficionado, I had the pleasure of watching “Earthquake” – a gripping thriller directed by Nicolás López. In this film, I find myself portraying a character alongside the talented Paula Izzo, both of us playing survivors navigating the wreckage of a devastated city following a fatal earthquake in Chile.
Interestingly, I was handpicked for my role when it was discovered that I could fluently speak English. Spending the entire production together, we developed an undeniable chemistry on and off-screen, which translates seamlessly into the film’s narrative. Beyond being just scene partners, we have evolved into something more profound, making our performances all the more authentic and captivating for audiences to experience.
It’s couples like these celebrities, including Charlie Heaton and Natalia Dyer from “Stranger Things”, who show me that the secret ingredient for an excellent horror movie, particularly those where romance is central, can be found in casting two individuals whose real-life love is so powerful, it feels eerie.
