Ten years after Train to Busan revolutionized zombie films, it’s coming back to cinemas to coincide with the release of director Yeon Sang-ho’s latest movie, Colony.
Sang-ho’s Train to Busan first gained attention at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival and quickly became popular thanks to its fast-paced action and heartfelt story. The movie centers on a group of people stuck on a train during a terrifying zombie outbreak in South Korea. Combining thrilling action with compelling characters, it became a hit with both critics and audiences around the world.
Well Go USA Entertainment is bringing the popular horror movie Train to Busan back to theaters in 4K on August 14, 2026, to celebrate its 10th anniversary. Fans will be able to see this highly-rated thriller with improved picture quality on the big screen for the first time.
Train to Busan stars Gong Yoo, Ma Dong-seok, Choi Woo-sik, and Kim Su-an, all of whom delivered fantastic performances that truly made the film special. Since its release, it’s become known as a groundbreaking zombie movie, earning a spot on the New York Times Critic’s Pick list and influencing many other films and TV series.
In addition to the re-release, Well Go USA announced they will distribute Yeon Sang-ho’s new film, Colony, in North America. Colony will debut at the Cannes Film Festival in May and will be in theaters on August 28, 2026—just two weeks after the release of Train to Busan.
Colony tells the story of Professor Se-jeong, who gets stuck inside a research facility after a dangerous, evolving virus is accidentally released. When the building is locked down to stop the virus from spreading, everyone inside must struggle to survive. The movie shares similar themes with Train to Busan, but takes place in a single, isolated location. You can watch the trailer for Colony below.
Gianna Jun returns to the big screen after a nine-year break with the new zombie thriller, Colony, and leads a cast that includes Koo Kyo-hwan, a familiar face in action and genre films. Because of its resemblance to the hit film Train to Busan and the director’s involvement, Colony is predicted to be a global success.
Doris Pfardrescher, CEO of Well Go USA Entertainment, shared her enthusiasm for the upcoming releases of both Train to Busan and Colony. She noted that Train to Busan was incredibly innovative when it came out and has inspired many similar films since. She also highlighted Colony as a more ambitious and intense follow-up to the director’s previous work.
Yeon Sang-ho is a master of zombie films. His movie Train to Busan was a global hit and changed the game for the genre, and we’re thrilled to bring a remastered 4K version back to cinemas for its 10th anniversary. Now, with Colony, he’s raised the stakes even higher, creating a new, intensely frightening experience for fans.
The popular zombie thriller Train to Busan is getting a re-release in theaters on August 14, 2026, and its sequel, Colony, will be released on August 28, 2026.
