New Pokémon TCG Set Revealed For July Has Fans Predicting Massive Change

Lots of new sets are coming for the Pokémon Trading Card Game in early 2026! We just got the Perfect Order set, and Chaos Rising will be released on May 22nd, with pre-release events starting May 9th. It won’t be long before another new set arrives after that!

Thanks to information from Poke Beach, we now know more about the next Pokémon Trading Card Game set coming in July. Fans are debating whether a key gameplay feature will come back into popular use. While some players are excited about its potential return, others hope it stays out of the competitive scene after being phased out previously.

Pokémon TCG‘s Pitch Black Set Confirmed For July

We Have The Dates

The newest Pokémon set, Pitch Black, is scheduled to launch on Friday, July 17th. Players will be able to get a sneak peek during the pre-release event, happening from July 4th to July 12th. Pitch Black will heavily feature themes inspired by the Pokémon Darkrai, who also had a Mega Evolution in the Pokémon Legends: Z-A: Mega Dimension expansion.

We don’t have many details about this new set yet, as we’re waiting to see what Japan releases first. It will share some cards with the ‘Pitch Black’ set, and is scheduled to launch in Japan on May 22nd. We can confirm that Mega Darkrai ex will be included in the set.

Will The Lost Zone Return To The Pokémon TCG?

Fans Are Predicting A Revival

Although details are limited, many fans believe this new set might bring back the Lost Zone. First introduced in 2009 and reappearing in 2018, the Lost Zone is a special area where cards are permanently discarded. It was removed from the game in 2022, but now people are hoping it will make another return after a four-year break.

One fan on the Poke Beach forums expressed surprise that the cards in the upcoming Abyss Eye set remain unknown, despite existing theories about why. They also wished the set had retained its original Japanese name. The fan added that the possible return of the Lost Zone is both exciting and concerning.

Regarding potential card releases, Mega Slowbro seems likely to come out soon. Cards that heavily impact the game often get released quickly, as we saw with Psyduck and Golduck, which were available only two sets after their promotional releases – much faster than the typical three or more sets.

The Pokémon Trading Card Game has plenty more exciting things planned, including a special set to celebrate its 30th anniversary. However, it’s likely that popular cards will be hard to find, especially as we get closer to the end of 2026.
