Daredevil: Born Again Season 2’s Subtle Multiverse Cameo Confirmed By Marvel Studios After Eagle-Eyed Viewers Spotted Eerie Detail

A Marvel extraterrestrial is officially watching the live-action cinematic universe.

The latest episode of Disney+’s Daredevil: Born Again, titled “Gloves Off,” has left fans buzzing. While a significant character’s apparent death is a major talking point, some viewers have noticed a hidden detail in the episode’s final scene. As Matt Murdock pursues the wounded Bullseye, sharp-eyed fans spotted that the broken glass in the background formed the shape of the Watcher’s head.

Online, people started buzzing about whether a strange figure seen in a Marvel scene was a coincidence or proof of alien life, and the speculation quickly went viral. Brad Winderbaum, head of streaming, television, and animation at Marvel Studios, has now responded to the rumors. He shared a screenshot of the scene on Instagram with the caption “Always watching,” and tagged the show What If?. This suggests he’s confirming that the figure looking through the window is indeed the Watcher.

I’ve been completely captivated by The Watcher, voiced by Jeffrey Wright! He first appeared in the Disney+ animated series, What If?, and he’s essentially this being who watches all these alternate realities. Basically, he observes what happens when big events play out differently than they did in our main timeline, Earth-616. He’s made a vow not to get involved in any of these realities, but things got intense at the end of season one with Ultron, and he actually broke that vow to step in. It was a huge moment!

The Watcher hasn’t appeared in any Marvel movies or TV shows yet, but the character was referenced in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Stan Lee made a brief appearance as someone who shared his experiences with the Watcher.

Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, has suggested that the character the Watcher might appear in future live-action Marvel movies and shows. He explained that exploring a character’s backstory and mythology can help audiences connect with them on a deeper level, and that ideas from one project can often expand into others. The animated series What If…?, which explored alternate realities featuring the Watcher, recently finished its third season.

The current storyline, known as the Multiverse Saga, is planned to finish with the release of Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, scheduled for December 18, 2026, and December 17, 2027. Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but instead of playing Iron Man, he’ll be taking on the role of the villain Doctor Doom.

We still don’t know why the Watcher was watching Daredevil, and it’s probably something that won’t be explained given the show’s focus on the fight between Daredevil and Kingpin. The Watcher might have just been observing, as that’s all he does – he’s a non-interfering observer. While the Avengers movies will deal with the multiverse, it’s unclear if they plan to fully introduce the Watcher as a character in those films.

Recent Marvel projects, such as Loki and Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, have heavily featured the multiverse, and this is expected to impact the overall storyline as we move towards the next Avengers films. However, Charlie Cox, who plays Daredevil, has confirmed that his character won’t be in Avengers: Doomsday.

New episodes of Daredevil: Born Again season 2 will be released on Disney+ at 9 pm ET each night until May 5th. Then, The Punisher: One Last Kill will air on May 12th.
