Fans of superheroes are eagerly anticipating the box office performance of “The Toxic Avenger” movie, which is set for release on August 29, 2025. After years in development, this reboot was screened at various venues and festivals in 2023, but struggled to find a distributor due to its graphic content. Despite starring Peter Dinklage as the title character Toxie, who has previously played Eitri in Avengers: Infinity War and Bolivar Trask in X-Men: Days of Future Past, the film failed to secure distribution. However, Cineverse has now acquired the rights to The Toxic Avenger and is hoping for a successful box office run that will at least cover its production costs.
What is are the box office projections for Peter Dinklage’s The Toxic Avenger?
Estimates predict that the opening weekend earnings for the new version of The Toxic Avenger will be around $2 million to $5 million, while the total domestic box office revenue could range from $4.5 million to $10 million over its entire run.
According to a report from Box Office Theory dated August 8, the projected earnings for this movie were not substantial until recently. Meanwhile, BoxOfficePro has a slightly lower prediction of $2 million to $4 million for the film’s box office performance. Although there isn’t a significant difference in their predictions, Box Office Theory acknowledges that the remake doesn’t have many strong points. However, it is worth noting that The Toxic Avenger was positively received at genre film festivals in 2023.
Last year saw the unexpected blockbuster, Terrifier 3, from Cineverse, raking in $18.9 million at U.S. box offices. It’s anticipated that devoted horror enthusiasts who propelled that movie to success might also turn up for The Toxic Avenger.
As a devoted cinema enthusiast, I must admit one potential hurdle for the upcoming film is the dense release schedule in September. There are several other movies slated to hit the big screen during that month, which could potentially impact its box office performance. Among them are “The Conjuring: Last Rites,” “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle,” and the much-anticipated superhero pairing of “Superman 2025” and “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.” These films will still be in theaters at that time, adding to the competition.
