The future of Batman is a hot topic as James Gunn and Peter Safran build the new DC Universe. Although Robert Pattinson will continue playing Batman in separate, standalone films, a new Batman will be introduced in The Brave and the Bold. This will be the thirteenth time the character has appeared in live-action, and the film will feature both Bruce Wayne and his son, Damian. This new Batman is intended to be a key figure in the DCU for years to come, eventually joining the Justice League.
With a new Batman casting search underway, several well-known actors are being suggested by fans, including Alan Ritchson (known for Reacher), Jake Gyllenhaal (Brokeback Mountain), and Jonathan Bailey (Wicked). Jensen Ackles, famous for playing Dean Winchester on Supernatural for 15 years and recently appearing in The Boys, is a particularly popular choice. Now, as he prepares to work with Supernatural creator Eric Kripke again on a new series, a co-star is publicly backing his potential entry into the DC universe.

Antony Starr, who plays Homelander in The Boys, told MovieWeb he thinks Jared Padalecki would be a great choice to play Batman in James Gunn’s new DC Universe. After MovieWeb pointed out Padalecki’s potential during an interview with Starr, the actor wholeheartedly agreed, saying “100%” he should take on the role of the Dark Knight.
Jared Padalecki isn’t new to the world of Batman. He’s previously voiced the character in several animated projects, including Batman: The Long Halloween (2021) and Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths (2024). He’s also publicly stated he’d be thrilled to play Batman in a live-action film, even just being considered for the role is something he’s proud of.
Jared Padalecki is physically well-suited to play Batman, having performed a lot of action-heavy roles in the past. Plus, his work on Supernatural demonstrates his ability to portray characters with complex or dual personalities, which is a key part of the Batman persona.
James Gunn hasn’t shared any official updates on who will play Batman. He’s seen the fan casting suggestions online, but still has a lot of work ahead to choose the right actor. Plus, since there’s no release date yet for The Brave and the Bold, it could be a while before we find out who gets the part.
