It’s Opening Weekend, And Jamie Lee Curtis Loves The ‘Little Group Of Freaks’ Who Helped Bring Freakier Friday To The Gen Z Generation

The long-awaited release of “Freaky Friday” is now available, and lead actress Jamie Lee Curtis is expressing fond memories and emotional reminiscences as viewers enjoy it for the first time. The Academy Award winner has expressed heartfelt thoughts about everyone who contributed to creating a fresh family comedy that rivals the original 2003 movie’s timeless essence.

In the midst of the film receiving favorable previews, such as our “Freaky Friday” review, and predicted to top the box office this weekend according to Box Office Pro, Jamie Lee Curtis shared a message with her Instagram audience. Take a look:

We shared laughter and tears, came together as a team to create a timeless story. It’s a film that explores themes like love, family, empathy, and understanding – even tackling issues such as aging, modern teen struggles, and lots of confusion along the way. The movie is filled with music, chaos, and plenty of miscommunications and blunders, all wrapped up in a warm blanket of maternal affection. I’m proud of our unique team who brought this production to life, and can’t wait for you all to see it tomorrow!

Curtis’ charming message arrived with a collection of pictures depicting the making of “Freakier Friday“. Have a peek:

It’s clear that there’s a strong sense of affection surrounding the production of “Freaky Friday.” The cast seems to have enjoyed every moment, and their enthusiasm stemmed from creating a worthy follow-up to the 2003 film that has touched many lives since its release, resonating with newer generations as well. Interestingly, Curtis was the one who reached out to Disney to initiate a sequel for “Freaky Friday,” inspired by countless fans expressing their desire to see it during her promotional tours for the “Halloween” trilogy over the past few years.

In the sequel, she had the chance to rejoin Lindsay Lohan and many of the original film’s cast members. Additionally, new teen characters were introduced – Sophia Hammons and Julia Butters. They portrayed fresh additions to the Coleman family, who found themselves in a bit of conflict as Lohan’s character Anna, a single mother to Butters’ Harper, was planning to marry Hammons’ father, Eric (portrayed by Manny Jacinto).

The family encounters further complications due to body-swapping antics, leading the teen girls to end up in Curtis and Lohan’s bodies and devise plans to separate their parents. During promotions for the movie, there has been an abundance of nostalgia, including a revival of the original cast in The Parent Trap, Lohan adopting her character’s signature style at the premiere, and a nod to one of her iconic outfits from the film. In our interview with Chad Michael Murray, who is reprising his role, he shared an amusing anecdote about filming the original movie as well.

This weekend, as audiences delve into the excitement of “Freaker Friday,” it remains to be seen how it will fare against other films slated for release in 2025. Catch it on the big screen right now!
