For years, The Simpsons has been considered the most iconic animated family, but Bob’s Burgers, which premiered 15 years ago, has become a strong competitor. The show has gained a dedicated fanbase and even had a movie, proving its impact on pop culture. A big part of its success is the talented voice cast, and fans were recently worried when news broke that Eugene Mirman, who voices Gene Belcher, was involved in a serious car accident.
Fortunately, reports about what happened have been encouraging. Although it was a frightening experience, the actor announced on social media that he’s recovering and expressed his gratitude to the emergency services who helped him. He posted a photo on Instagram with a message saying:
“Hello everyone!
I’m incredibly grateful for all the kind messages and support I’ve received from everyone, both friends and strangers. I want to especially thank the brave people who rescued me from the car, and the wonderful hospital staff who took such great care of me. Considering everything, I’m doing surprisingly well and so thankful to be alive. I haven’t been online much because I don’t have my phone – definitely not the best way to disconnect! To my friends who reached out with lovely messages, it was tempting to respond by asking to be on your podcasts! Sending my love to you all, and please take care. – Eugene
In the animated series Bob’s Burgers, Gene is the cheerful 11-year-old son of Bob and Linda Belcher, and he loves food, his mom, and making music. His sisters, Louise and Tina, are voiced by Kristen Schaal and Dan Mintz, respectively. While the details haven’t been fully shared, a photo posted by Mirman shows he suffered injuries to his right hand and wrist, which were bandaged and bruised.
Schaal excitedly commented on the post, confirming her brother was still alive. Comedian John Hodgman playfully replied, expressing his affection and mentioning their podcast was fully booked.
A crash happened at the Bedford Toll Plaza on the F.E. Everett Turnpike in Bedford, New Hampshire. NBC Boston reports that this plaza has seen many accidents in the past, causing injuries and fatalities to both drivers and toll booth workers. In 2018, Caleb Scofield, a musician from the bands Cave In and Old Man Gloom, died in a crash at the same location.
Police said they are investigating the crash, but no charges have been filed yet.
Beyond his work as a talented comedian, Mirman also had an extensive career in voice acting, lending his voice to shows like Archer, Home Movies, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and The Boys Presents: Diabolical. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends during this sad time.
