Warning: This article contains spoilers from XO, Kitty season 3
Season 3 of XO, Kitty will continue the story of Lara Jean and Peter’s relationship, and the show’s creator, Valentina Garza, is sharing what fans can expect.
As a big fan of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, I was really excited to see the world continue with XO, Kitty. It’s fun getting little updates on Lara Jean and Peter, even though seeing Lana Condor and Noah Centineo pop up reminded us things aren’t always perfect for them! In fact, the show reveals they actually went through a breakup, at least for a while, which was a bit of a surprise.
In a recent interview with Swooon, the show’s creator, Garza, discussed the evolving relationship between Lara and Peter. They explained that they consulted with Jenny Han, a key figure from the original series, to make sure Lara Jean’s character felt authentic. Garza also reassured fans that, despite any challenges, Lara Jean and Peter ultimately end up happy together.
We worked closely with Jenny Han throughout these discussions. Lara Jean is a fan favorite, and we wanted to honor her character while also showing her growth within her relationship. That’s why Peter and Lara Jean experience some difficulties early in the season. Ultimately, they resolve their issues, so fans can rest assured that their relationship is okay.
Regarding a possible appearance by Centineo in a future season 4 of XO, Kitty, the showrunner, Garza, indicates the priority is to keep the focus on Kitty’s story. Bringing Lara Jean back would be a compelling development, particularly in highlighting the sisters’ relationship and how they influence each other.
We believed bringing Lara Jean back would be really exciting for both the story and the characters. We especially wanted to explore the strong bond between the sisters and how they influence each other. Ultimately, Kitty has a big impact on Lara Jean, encouraging her to be braver and more confident.
Why Do Lara Jean & Peter Break Up In XO, Kitty Season 3?
Lara, a new character in XO, Kitty, is introduced alongside the news that she and her boyfriend, Peter, are going through a difficult time and have separated. The show reveals this early on, describing their relationship as experiencing a “rough patch.” Meanwhile, Kitty has been spending the summer with her sister, LJ, in New York, and it’s clear that Lara isn’t doing well in her love life.
Lara and Peter are both changing and developing as individuals and in their careers, and they’ve both been finding it hard to adjust to this new chapter in their relationship. Peter acknowledges this during his appearances in season 2 of XO, Kitty. While Kitty believes Lara and Peter are meant to be together, Lara isn’t so convinced, as their time apart and differing goals feel like a significant obstacle.
Lara & Peter End Up Together By The End Of XO, Kitty Season 3
At the end of XO, Kitty season 3, Lara calls her sister to wish her a happy birthday. She also lets Kitty know that Peter sends his greetings and that they’re working through their issues, though she doesn’t share many details. This hint of trouble in their relationship might be a way to mirror Kitty’s own romantic struggles, and it could be explored further if the show gets another season.
