We finally have some solid information about the next Batman movie. Recent struggles with Warner Bros., Netflix, and Paramount buying and selling companies have created uncertainty about the future of Batman and the DC Universe.
I was so excited when April started! It wasn’t an April Fool’s joke – amazing news came out that has every Batman fan, including me, totally thrilled!
Great news for Batman fans! The premiere of Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall, an animated movie based on the popular comic books, will happen at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France in June 2026.
Batman: Knightfall Is Coming, But Which One?
According to the Film Festival, a new animated series will adapt one of the most famous storylines from Batman comics. The first part, Batman: Knightfall ‘Part 1: Knightfall’, features the villain Bane freeing all of Batman’s enemies from Arkham Asylum, pushing Batman to his absolute limits both mentally and physically.
- Production: Warner Bros. Animation, Sam Register, Michael Uslan
- Director: Jeff Wamester
- Script: Jeremy Adams
- Run time: 78 minutes, 31 seconds
The story will accurately reflect the comics by including Tim Drake as Robin alongside Batman. According to writer Tom Adams, this version of Tim is particularly well-written and compelling, and this will be seen in 2025.
While many fans hoping for a live-action announcement were likely disappointed, DC Studios hasn’t yet chosen its next actors for Batman, Flash, or Wonder Woman. This means there’s no news about that film – which James Gunn has internally referred to as Batman: Knightfall. Interestingly, it’s amusing to consider if Gunn was surprised to see the animated title includes two colons in its name.
Lots of Batman Is On The Way — Eventually
Currently, there’s no confirmed release date for a live-action adaptation of Batman: Knightfall. However, Robert Pattinson’s The Batman Part II (which exists in its own separate universe) is in development. Also planned is an R-rated Clayface movie, currently aiming for an October 28, 2026 release, though that date could change.
As a huge Batman fan, I’m so excited they’re adding Batman: Knightfall ‘Part 1: Knightfall’ to the collection! It means we’re getting a lot more Gotham crime-fighting action over the next couple of years. We already know the release dates for two parts, and they’re planning to announce the dates for the other two soon.
Given that DC Animated Studios produced Batman: Knightfall ‘Part 1: Knightfall’, it’s likely to stream on HBO Max, just like recent films such as Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires. However, it’s still uncertain whether it will be released in theaters, even for a limited time.
It’s great to hear that Batman: Knightfall ‘Part 1: Knightfall’ is coming! Fans will get to see Bane as the villain, and Dick Grayson (Drake) will team up with Bruce Wayne to fight him. This also gives James Gunn some breathing room to develop his plans beyond Robert Pattinson’s Batman universe.
