As a huge fan of The Boys, I recently read that Eric Kripke, the show’s creator, has a pretty strict rule about the show’s world-building. Apparently, from the very beginning, he’s made a point of completely avoiding any mention of Marvel or DC comics – no Easter eggs, no nods, nothing. It’s interesting to know how deliberate that choice was, and it’s definitely shaped the show’s unique identity as we head into the final season.

In an interview with ScreenRant, showrunner Eric Kripke described the show’s goal as feeling incredibly realistic. He explained they strive to portray a world that’s essentially our own, except with the added element of superheroes—which, he admitted, naturally creates complications.

Kripke made it clear that the writers absolutely couldn’t mention Marvel or DC Comics in the show. He explained that all superheroes within the show’s universe exist under the Vought International banner – there are no other superhero brands or universes allowed.

Kripke admitted that sticking to this rule isn’t always easy. He explained that it can be difficult because so many current pop culture references involve characters like Superman, which they’re not allowed to use. However, aside from that limitation, they try to include as many references as possible.
