Transformations are a key part of what makes Dragon Ball so popular. Each new story arc usually introduces new forms for Goku and his allies, and these moments are consistently highlights of the series. Dragon Ball Super has really expanded on this, giving each major character their own unique transformation over the last few story arcs.
Goku, Gohan, and Piccolo have reached their peak transformations, but other characters in Dragon Ball Super really need new forms to stay competitive. Sometimes their current strongest form just doesn’t fit their style, and other times, they risk becoming unimportant without a power-up.
Vegeta Will Never Become the Strongest Saiyan With Ultra Ego
Similar to characters like Goku and Broly, Vegeta now has a unique transformation called Ultra Ego. This form allows him to tap into the energy of destruction, making him incredibly powerful and rivaling even the angelic power of Ultra Instinct.
Watching Vegeta in the Granolah the Survivor arc, it became clear to me that Ultra Ego just doesn’t really fit him. It’s not about strength, but about mindset – he lacks the ruthless, destroyer-like attitude needed to truly master the form. Honestly, I think his best bet would be to switch gears and look for a completely different approach to getting stronger.
Majin Buu Never Getting New Transformations is Actually Weird
Similar to other major villains in Dragon Ball Z, Majin Buu transformed into several different forms throughout his fight with the Z-Warriors. That’s why it’s strange that, excluding Majuub in Dragon Ball GT and the comedic ‘Fit Buu’, he hasn’t received any new forms in a long time.
Buu’s powers are among the most imaginative and enjoyable in the entire Dragon Ball series, and there’s no limit to what he could do with new forms. His fight during the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga, especially when influenced by Grand Supreme Kai, was fantastic. But seeing him unleash a completely new, strange transformation with even more unique abilities would be incredible.
Androids 17 and 18 Would Make More Sense as Fighters if They Transformed
Currently, aside from Goku, Vegeta, and Piccolo, Androids 17 and 18 are the strongest fighters on the team. It’s often noted how incredibly strong they are, especially considering they don’t train much – one hardly trains at all! If they could transform into stronger forms, it would address this imbalance.
Neither twin has ever had a different form except during Dragon Ball GT, when Android 17 merged with Hell Fighter 17 to become Super 17. This previous transformation shouldn’t be considered at all. Instead, their new forms should be inspired by the fact that they both possess the components Cell needed to reach his perfect state, potentially giving them a more insect-like appearance when they transform.
Tien Shinhan Deserves a Transformation More Than Any Other Human Z-Warrior
Tien Shinhan hasn’t had much luck in Dragon Ball Super, often being defeated easily to make other characters, like Krillin, seem stronger. Considering he’s the only human who consistently trains, he deserves a powerful new transformation and a better costume than the ones he’s worn so far in the series.
It’s strange that a character is only now unlocking a new transformation after so long, but Dragon Ball Super doesn’t really bother with explanations. Ignoring the odd backstory of his third eye and the fact that powerful techniques aren’t limited to Saiyans, the show rarely tries to make things logically consistent. That being said, Tien Shinhan is overdue for an update, and while Vegeta’s Ultra Ego might not be a good fit for him, it could work perfectly for Tien.
Jiren Will Need a Major Transformation For His Rematch With Goku
As a huge Dragon Ball Super fan, it’s amazing to think back to the Tournament of Power and how unbelievably strong Jiren was! He would have totally won if Goku hadn’t gotten help from Android 17 and Frieza. But honestly, considering everything that’s happened since then, and assuming Jiren hasn’t gotten a power-up, I think Orange Piccolo would absolutely dominate him now. It’s wild to think how much the power levels have shifted!
As a fan of Dragon Ball Super, I know a lot of us are really hoping to see Goku and Jiren fight again. Most of us want Goku to finally beat Jiren decisively. But if that rematch happens, Jiren absolutely has to power up and transform. Otherwise, with Goku’s perfected Ultra Instinct, it would be over quickly – Jiren wouldn’t stand a chance.
Hit Deserves a Transformation as Goku’s Original Rival in Dragon Ball Super
I’m a huge Dragon Ball fan, and I really think Hit is one of the best characters Dragon Ball Super brought to the table. It’s a shame to see him overshadowed like so many of Goku’s old rivals! He’s so unique, and I honestly believe his abilities have the potential for an absolutely incredible transformation – something truly awesome for the whole franchise.
Hit’s powers all revolve around controlling time. Considering he’s over a thousand years old, he might not even be at his strongest physically. Finding a way to drastically change his age – either becoming younger or older – could make his Time Skip and Time Cage abilities powerful enough to defeat anyone, regardless of their strength.
Caulifla is Ready to Become Universe 6’s Super Saiyan God
I always thought Caulifla really stood out during the Tournament of Power. She had this incredible energy and clearly just loved fighting, making her feel like Universe 6’s version of Goku. But honestly, she wasn’t quite strong enough on her own to go toe-to-toe with Goku. She really needed Kale by her side, and ultimately, their combined power as the fused Super Saiyan 2 Kefla was what made them a real threat.
Considering Champa’s rivalry with Beerus, it’s logical that he’d let the Saiyans from his universe train with Vados, especially after seeing they’re the only ones who might be able to compete with Beerus’s fighters. This training could allow Caulifla to follow a similar path to Goku and become the first Super Saiyan God from Universe 6.
Cabba Can Finally Redeem Super Saiyan Blue
Cabba is a likable character, but he’s never been strong enough to make a real impact on the story. Even during the Tournament of Power, he couldn’t go beyond Super Saiyan 2 and was easily defeated by Frieza.
Cabba is essentially the Vegeta from another universe, so it’s logical he’d follow a similar path. Just like Caulifla, he likely continued training with Vados, which means he could now transform into Super Saiyan Blue, or even the more powerful Super Saiyan Blue Evolution – a form unique to Vegeta.
Pan Can Call Back to Dragon Ball GT With the Power of Super Saiyan 4
A major criticism of Dragon Ball GT is that it never let Pan, a female character, transform into a Super Saiyan. Fans have long wished for this to be changed, and while it would be great to see her briefly achieve the golden Super Saiyan look, there’s an even better direction for her character development during her training with Piccolo.
Super Saiyan 4 Goku is the most iconic character from Dragon Ball GT, even more so than Pan. With Dragon Ball DAIMA bringing the form back into the spotlight, giving Pan access to it would be a surprising but exciting way to establish her as a strong fighter. It would also cleverly connect two key elements of GT. This is particularly meaningful because Goku first achieved Super Saiyan 4 out of his love for Pan. Super Saiyan 4 uniquely emphasizes a Saiyan’s primal instincts, and Pan, more than any other child or grandchild of Goku and Vegeta, truly embodies that Saiyan spirit.
Goten and Trunks Have Been Stuck as Super Saiyans For Decades
For three decades, Goten and Trunks have consistently relied on the same battle tactic: fighting on their own as Super Saiyans, and then fusing into Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks when that fails. It’s clear they need to evolve, and in the world of Dragon Ball, that usually means unlocking new transformations.
At the very least, Goten and Trunks should both be able to transform into Super Saiyan 3 on their own, and fans have been waiting to see an adult Gotenks reach that level. However, since they haven’t been important fighters for a while, if Dragon Ball Super wants people to see them as powerful again, they’ll each need a special ability – something as distinct and powerful as Ultra Instinct or Ultra Ego.
