Titus Welliver has clarified rumors about his potential return as Harry Bosch in the upcoming spinoff series. Despite playing the character for years, and after being replaced by a different actor for the prequel, Bosch: Start of Watch, fans shouldn’t expect to see him reprise the role as an older Harry Bosch in the future.
In a recent interview, Jamie Welliver confirmed he won’t be involved with the Bosch: Start of Watch prequel series in any capacity. This means he won’t make any appearances, even in flashbacks, and the show will entirely center on Cameron Monaghan as a young Harry Bosch. Welliver also isn’t working on the project behind the scenes, but he still wishes the cast and crew good luck.
Welliver said he knows everyone involved with the upcoming project, Start of Watch, is very busy, but he’s really looking forward to seeing it. He hasn’t met Cameron yet, but they’ve been communicating through handwritten letters – Cameron sent him a very kind and thoughtful one. Because of this, Welliver didn’t want to unexpectedly visit the set of Start of Watch.
He explained that while he isn’t a producer on the new show, and it won’t feature scenes set in the future or an older version of Harry Bosch, it’s designed as a self-contained story. He believes fans of Bosch and Bosch: Legacy will enjoy seeing Bosch as a young, beginning law enforcement officer.
Welliver explained that the same creative team is leading the show, which is great news. He and Tom Bernardo previously worked closely with the lead character, and the current showrunner is exceptionally talented. He deeply understands the source material and played a key role in developing the character and its world. Welliver feels confident the show is in excellent hands and is enthusiastic about its future, just like everyone else involved.
