Jeremy Renner is Ready to Talk About Hawkeye Season 2, But Will Disney Pay What He’s Worth?

Jeremy Renner might be open to return for Hawkeye Season 2 after all.

In terms of overcoming the odds, Jeremy Renner has some valuable insights. Following an incident in 2023 where he was almost flattened by a massive snowplow weighing about 14,000 pounds, an accident that potentially threatened not just his acting career, but his very life, he’s now eager to resume his superhero roles.

In a recent conversation with Empire, he mentioned, “My body is gearing up for something similar,” referring to Hawkeye Season 2. When discussing the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Renner expressed, “I’m always thrilled to be part of that universe. I adore those guys, and I love my character.

Payment Dispute

Back in May, however, Renner struck a different tone on the High Performance podcast.

Renner stated that they asked him to work on ‘Hawkeye’ season 2 but offered less than half his usual pay. He humorously questioned, ‘Is it because I was hit by a car that I’m worth only half of my original value?’

In that moment, Renner criticized the budget-conscious financial analysts at Disney, telling them something along the lines of “Take a break and fly a kite.” The implication being that they were overly focused on cost-cutting.

From Half the Jeremy to 150%

On January 1st, 2023, during an unfortunate incident, Jeremy Renner sustained 38 broken bones, blunt chest trauma, and a collapsed lung while attempting to protect his nephew from a snowplow accident. His participation in Hawkeye Season 2 was uncertain, and there was even question as to whether he’d be able to work at all due to the severity of his injuries.

He said to Empire, ‘I’m not just 150% of who I was before the event; rather, I’ve become significantly more. The focus on my health and well-being has been instrumental in my recovery.’

Now that he’s back, it seems he’s ready to slip back into Hawkeye’s signature attire.

“I’m sure we’ll do season 2, and other things. And I’m happy to do it.”

Could “other things” encompass an upcoming Avengers movie (or two, or three)?

Renner playfully remarked, ‘It’s uncertain if anyone would prefer me in tights, but I believe my physique would flatter the outfit.’

Renner is Ready, But What About Disney?

Prior to Renner’s public labeling of Disney’s offer as “insulting,” Marvel TV head Brad Winderbaum had already been optimistic about the possibility of another season for Hawkeye.

In a chat with Entertainment Weekly back in February 2025, I shared my thoughts on the potential for a second season of Agatha All Along. I mentioned that Hawkeye is another series where there seems to be room for more episodes, and we’re actively seeking chances to explore this further.

Given Bob Iger’s statement in May that he plans to reduce MCU projects to around two TV series per year, with a focus on quality over quantity to prevent “superhero fatigue”, it is possible that a second season for Hawkeye might not be produced.

Despite the ongoing salary disagreement with Renner, it’s worth noting that Hailee Steinfeld’s stardom has significantly increased during this period. If her contract for Hawkeye Season 2 hasn’t been finalized yet, there might be intense discussions ahead between Steinfeld and Disney over her compensation.

Nothing is Certain

Since Renner has recovered and is prepared to discuss matters, what remains uncertain is whether there will be space in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for another season of Hawkeye.

It’s not officially confirmed yet, but there seems to be growing excitement, suggesting that Hawkeye from Marvel might make a comeback.
