The recent film, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, adds several new characters and story ideas that could be explored in future movies. As a follow-up to 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie, it broadens the adventure, sending Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad, and Yoshi on a journey throughout the galaxy.
During their journey, the heroes learn more about Bowser, revealing surprising complexities, and even make unlikely friends with other familiar Nintendo characters. These moments might simply be enjoyable surprises, but they could also be important setups for future stories and potentially lead to bigger team-ups between Nintendo franchises.
What Happens To Bowser And Bowser Jr. In The Super Mario Galaxy Movie?
As a huge fan, I thought the ending of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie was interesting. With Bowser and Bowser Jr. defeated, it definitely feels like they’re setting things up for a new bad guy to emerge in future movies. It was also surprisingly heartwarming to see Bowser grappling with his issues throughout the film – he even tries to help Mario at one point! Seeing him work through his anger and even get a little help from Luigi was a really unexpected, and honestly, sweet, touch.
Despite being happy to be with his son again, Bowser starts to revert to his old, villainous ways. Though he’s momentarily upset by what he believes is the heroes’ defeat, he quickly becomes gleefully evil once more, encouraged by Bowser Jr. This ultimately results in a showdown with Mario, where Bowser falls into lava, only to return as Dry Bowser.
Okay, so even with all their extra power, the Bowsers still end up losing and getting hauled off to what looks like an intergalactic prison – seriously, the jail is out there! It’s funny, though, they’re still clearly the villains, but this whole experience seems to have brought them closer, making them a little more… relatable, I guess? And get this – Mario actually saves Bowser Jr. during the big showdown. It’s a small moment, but it hints that maybe, just maybe, we’ll see a slightly softer side of Bowser in the future. It definitely leaves you wondering what’s next for this surprisingly complex villain.
This change could let Bowser and Bowser Jr. take on more of a helper role in future films. It would give them more opportunities for humor, and also create fresh challenges for Mario and friends by introducing a completely new villain – like the one who attempted to steal Rosalina and Peach’s powers.
Peach And Rosalina’s Connections Makes Them Absurdly Powerful
A major surprise in The Super Mario Bros. Movie is the revelation that Princess Peach and Rosalina are sisters. Both are incredibly powerful, and even stronger when they work together. When a mysterious enemy attacked them when Peach was a baby, Rosalina sent Peach to the Mushroom Kingdom to keep her safe.
Honestly, the ending of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie really got me! Seeing Peach and Rosalina team up was fantastic. They combined their powers in this incredible way, completely destroying Bowser Jr.’s fortress and turning his whole artificial world into something beautiful and natural. It just really drove home how unbelievably powerful they both are, and especially what they can achieve when they work together. It was a genuinely heartwarming and visually stunning moment.
This development significantly elevates Peach’s role within the overall story and gives her opportunities to learn and improve new skills. The movie also hints at future conflicts by deliberately keeping the identity of those trying to steal power from Rosalina and Peach a mystery, potentially introducing a new villain in a later installment.
Daisy’s Post-Credits Scene Sets Her Up For The Third Mario Movie
Another important princess in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is Daisy, who makes a quick appearance after the credits roll. We learn she lives in the Gateway Galaxy and is shown stopping Ukiki from robbing someone, which suggests she’s an enemy of Wart and his group of criminals.
I noticed a really neat callback to Super Mario Bros. 2 with this – Wart was the big bad in that game, and it’s cool to see that connection here. More importantly, this moment feels like a great step towards establishing Daisy as a strong, capable hero, putting her right up there with Peach and Rosalina. It definitely makes me excited to see what they do with her character in future games; she’s poised to be a much more interesting and active player in the Mario universe.
Fox’s Role In The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (And How It Sets Up A Super Smash Bros. Movie)
A major surprise in The Super Mario Bros. Movie is the appearance of Fox McCloud, the hero of the Star Fox games. The movie explains that Fox arrived in Mario’s world through a warp hole and now works as a pilot for hire, offering his skills to anyone who can pay.
Throughout the movie’s space-based journey, Fox proves to be a valuable teammate, bravely holding off most of Bowser’s army during the climactic fight so the heroes can succeed. The ending shows Rosalina fixing his ship, the Arwing, enabling him to go back home.
This short film could be a subtle preview of a potential Star Fox movie, demonstrating the character’s appeal and the exciting possibilities of that world. Alternatively, the advanced warp drive technology shown here might become important in later films.
As a film fan, I’m really excited about that engine they introduced – it seems like it gives Fox the ability to jump between different realities whenever he wants. This opens up so many possibilities! We could see him team up with characters from all sorts of universes, and I’m hoping it means we might revisit Mario’s world again. It could even be a way to bring in other Nintendo characters and properties into the films, and honestly, it feels like they’re building towards something huge – maybe even a big crossover movie down the line. It’s a really clever way to expand the universe!
The True Meaning Of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
The Super Mario Bros. Movie really emphasizes the importance of strong relationships. This is shown through families reconnecting – like the Princesses and the Bowsers – and new friendships forming, such as those between Yoshi and Fox. The movie briefly hints at disagreements between characters like Yoshi and Toad, or Mario and Fox, but these are quickly resolved.
These relationships are also central to Bowser’s development. Surprisingly, Luigi and Bowser have become real friends thanks to Luigi’s attempts to help Bowser change his ways, and Luigi constantly encourages Mario to give Bowser a chance. Though Mario initially distrusts and dislikes Bowser, he eventually starts to see him as more than just a villain – he begins to recognize Bowser’s humanity.
Seeing Bowser team up with Mario and Peach was amazing, and it really showed his growth as a character. It’s also why I was so relieved when Mario saved Bowser Jr. from that dragon – it felt like a turning point for both of them, and maybe a hint that they could change for the better. While the movie is full of bright colors and incredible visuals, it’s those moments – those emotional connections – that really made The Super Mario Bros. Movie special for me.
