Where Kate Bishop Is During Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 & Why She Doesn’t Rescue Swordsman

Be warned, this article reveals spoilers from Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 3. Despite having a connection to one of Wilson Fisk’s captives, Kate Bishop does not appear in the new season of Daredevil: Born Again. Hailee Steinfeld first joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2021 as a key character in the series Hawkeye, where she trained with a retired Avenger and helped him move past his time as the masked vigilante, Ronin.

Since the show ended, the character has only made a quick appearance in The Marvels. It’s surprising she hasn’t been involved in season two of Daredevil: Born Again, especially because her mother used to be engaged to Jacques Duquesne, who is currently being held captive by Fisk’s team.

Kate Bishop Was Recruited By Ms. Marvel

We don’t currently know where Kate Bishop is in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But since she last appeared in 2023’s The Marvels, and Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan) invited her to join a new team, it’s likely Kate is working with Kamala and other young heroes somewhere off-screen.

It’s possible Kamala is receiving guidance and support from Nick Fury and S.A.B.E.R., as they were the source of her initial information about Kate. S.A.B.E.R.’s orbital base could potentially serve as the headquarters and training facility for the Young Avengers within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Even though Kate Bishop developed a fragile friendship with Yelena Belova during the Hawkeye series, their paths have diverged, and Yelena is now a leader with the New Avengers. This suggests Kate is likely off-planet or training with heroes like Kamala Khan while Fisk takes control of New York.

Kate Bishop Didn’t Have A Deep Connection To Jacques Duquesne

Kate might not be rushing to rescue Jacques because their relationship wasn’t very strong. Jacques was once engaged to Kate’s mother, but Kate never fully trusted him and was always suspicious of his intentions.

When someone was murdered, Kate immediately suspected Jacques. Although he wasn’t the killer – it turned out Kate’s mother was manipulating events to frame her fiancé – Kate had no outstanding debts to Jacques and realized their relationship couldn’t continue after her mother was imprisoned.

Kate being spotted at a simple apartment in New York suggests she and Jacques are no longer living together. While Jacques is in a dangerous situation, Kate seems to have her own urgent problems to focus on. Plus, knowing he’s usually capable of taking care of himself, she might believe he doesn’t need her assistance right now.

Kate Bishop Has Fought Kingpin Before

Kate might also be reluctant to go back to New York with Fisk still as mayor. She first crossed paths with him when investigating her mother’s connections to the notorious crime boss. While she fearlessly confronted him, she discovered just how incredibly strong and resilient he is.

Kate and Fisk clashed, with Kate firing arrows that hit him squarely in the chest. However, Fisk simply brushed them off without reacting. He then landed several punches on Kate, sending her tumbling. Although Kate managed to briefly gain the advantage by detonating arrows under Fisk’s feet, he ultimately recovered and walked away unharmed.

Kate understands just how dangerous Fisk is and the serious harm he could cause. Although this might make her want to stop him, she can’t fight him and his advanced security team alone. Plus, it’s doubtful she could persuade a team of heroes to come to New York and risk everything to save a single person.

Beyond everything else, arranging even a quick appearance by actors like Hailee Steinfeld, who also star in Marvel Cinematic Universe projects, is a significant challenge. That’s why it makes sense that Matt Murdock (Daredevil) and other heroes who typically operate on a street level are handling Wilson Fisk on their own in the second season of Daredevil: Born Again.
