It might seem odd to compare Prime Video’s popular superhero series to the animated Shrek movies, but one of the show’s stars sees a surprising connection. Colby Minifie believes her character is very similar to a famous villain from the Shrek films.
Although Ashley’s appearance changed dramatically by the end of Season 4, makeup artist Minifie actually has stronger feelings about how she looked in the earlier seasons. She jokingly pointed out that Ashley ‘started with hair,’ specifically a short, unflattering cut reminiscent of Lord Farquaad from Shrek. This refers to Ashley’s original Season 1 hairstyle, which featured blunt bangs and a boxy, somewhat strange shape.
That’s where the comparison between Ashley and Lord Farquaad stops. Unlike the demanding villain from Shrek, who controls everyone around him, Ashley is used and overlooked by the more powerful heroes at Vought. She’s constantly worried about her safety because Homelander is becoming increasingly unpredictable, but her developing abilities in Season 5 might finally give her the upper hand.
What’s Next for Ashley on The Boys?
Just like other characters on The Boys, Ashley Barrett’s story will conclude with the show’s fifth and final season. The creators and cast have hinted at significant character deaths, consistent with the show’s famously violent style. Given that Ashley has largely played a villainous role throughout the series, it’s likely she will meet a tragic end before the finale.
I’m so excited! We’re finally going to see what happened to Ashley after she took Compound V! It’s been a mystery, and I can’t wait to see her new powers and, honestly, how dramatically she’s changed. The show is saving the big reveal of her transformation for Season 5 of The Boys, and I’m counting down the days!
I’ve been watching Ashley’s journey closely, and honestly, I think there’s still a chance she could switch sides and help The Boys. She’s been visibly disturbed by what the Supes are doing lately, and while it’s hard to say if she’s genuinely having a moral awakening or just looking out for herself, I think Season 5 will really force her to confront what she believes in. I’m hoping she’ll finally face her own issues and maybe, just maybe, find a way to redeem herself after everything that’s happened.
I’m really excited for the new season, though so much is still under wraps! One thing’s for sure, though: the character won’t have that awful, Lord Farquaad-like hairstyle anymore. Honestly, I’m expecting something way scarier than a bad haircut, especially with Compound V involved. It sounds like her transformation is going to be truly terrifying.
The Boys Season 5 premieres on April 8.
