Be warned, this article contains spoilers from the season 2 finale of Paradise. Before season 3 begins, Thomas Doherty finally reveals who Dylan’s parents are.
At first, Dylan is known as Link, the leader of a group of 10,000 people traveling to a bunker in Colorado. In season 2, episode 7 of Paradise, we learn his real name is Dylan, and his birthday is May 16th. This is significant because Samantha Redmond’s deceased son was also named Dylan, born on the same day, and would be 26 years old now. Samantha believes Link is her son, brought back to life through an advanced AI computer called ALEX, but the season finale doesn’t confirm whether this is actually the case.
In a recent interview with Variety, show creator Sam Esmail revealed that season 3 of Paradise will finally reveal if Link/Dylan is the biological son of Frank Sinatra. He explained that Dylan is aware the possibility is real and will be dealing with this revelation alongside the challenges of becoming a father and mourning Annie (played by Shailene Woodley). You can read Doherty’s full statement below.
He believes it’s possible, but we haven’t confirmed it yet. We’ll definitely explore this in Season 3, which is why I’m being careful about what I say. Season 3 will delve into these complex revelations – individually, they’re difficult to grasp, let alone process. We’ll see him begin to come to terms with his daughter, and start to understand the possibility that Sinatra was his mother. We’ll also witness him grappling with the loss of Annie.
In the season 2 finale of Paradise, Sinatra learns that more and more strange events are linked to ALEX, and she suspects Dylan is involved. The show hasn’t revealed exactly what ALEX is capable of – whether it can travel through time, access different universes, or something else entirely – but it needs to explain how Sinatra’s son could still be alive as one of these anomalies despite having died years ago. It also has to account for scenes showing Dylan in the past, before the volcanic eruption, where he’s building an early version of ALEX and is saved by Billy Pace.
Dylan discovering who he really is and where he comes from is closely connected to the task Sinatra gave Xavier Collins (Sterling K. Brown): find ALEX, follow the instructions, and fix everything that’s gone wrong. Throughout the season, both Dylan and Xavier have been getting nosebleeds and seeing visions of each other. Now their journeys have converged, and each of them has a strong personal reason to reach ALEX.
Despite the surprising sci-fi elements, actor Chris Doherty has confirmed that, like all shows created by Dan Fogelman, Dylan’s storyline will remain focused on heartfelt and emotional themes. He’s still reeling from the news that Annie is gone and that he has a daughter – information he didn’t have time to absorb during the finale’s dramatic events. If it’s confirmed that Sinatra is his mother, that adds another complex dimension as he figures out how to be a father raising her grandchild.
Good news for fans of Paradise: Season 3 is happening, and filming begins in April! The creators, Dan Fogelman, John Brown, and John Hoberg, have confirmed this will be the last season. Expect to see returning favorites like Teri Rogers-Collins, Presley Collins, James Collins, Dr. Gabriela Torabi, Agent Nicole Robinson, and Jeremy Bradford alongside Dylan and Xavier. The show will also use flashbacks and the ALEX technology to potentially bring back characters we thought were gone, including Sinatra, President Cal Bradford, Billy, and Jane Driscoll.
All Paradise season 1 and 2 episodes are now streaming on Hulu.
