Someone who received an early copy of information about a new Lion King attraction shared images online. These images show concept art and details about the attraction’s development. The attraction is based on the classic animated movie about Simba. The materials reveal plans for a Pride Rock structure and mention a mountain that will be around 37 meters tall, offering a glimpse into the attraction’s design.

First Look at the Attraction

Disney Adventure World officially opened on March 29th. While a map of the second theme park at Disneyland Paris was revealed in early February, it surprisingly left out the previously promised Lion King area that had been announced at the D23 Expo. Other planned attractions were also missing from the map at that time.

Besides a few concept sketches that were shown before, these new materials offer a first glimpse of the upcoming attraction. The images feature both drawings and miniature models of the project. A description in the accompanying book, written in English and French, explains that the attraction will be themed to an African savannah just outside of Paris.

More pictures reveal the creative teams building initial versions of the ride. The designs are influenced by the architecture of Tanzania, using materials like thatch and stone. The main part of the Lion King attraction will likely be a massive replica of Pride Rock. A preview at the D23 Expo showed a log flume ride coming out of Pride Rock, indicating the ride will involve water.

Although there isn’t a dedicated Lion King area at any of the Disney parks in the U.S. yet, the upcoming Tiana’s Bayou Adventure ride is similar in scope. The attraction will blend indoor and outdoor experiences, with detailed scenes brought to life using animatronic figures. Recent photos show the progress being made on these figures, including characters like Scar and the hyenas – Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed.

What Comes Next

Although people are excited about the first detailed views of the new *Lion Kingthemed land, Disney hasn’t announced when it will open. Instead of renovating an existing ride, the impressive Pride Rock structure is being built entirely from scratch. The entire area is also new, as it’s being developed on land that wasn’t previously used within the park, surrounding the central Adventure Bay lake.

Currently, guests at Disney Adventure World can enjoy areas like Avengers Campus and World of Frozen. Details suggest the new *Lion Kingthemed area is being created with the same approach as recent park additions, focusing on blending the scenery, buildings, and characters together seamlessly.

People online seem excited about the project, showing continued interest from theme park fans. Though each ride can be enjoyed on its own, projects of this size usually aim to build a fully immersive and connected world. This idea comes from Walt Disney’s design principles, which focused on making guests feel inside the story, rather than just watching it.
