Prime Video’s upcoming live-action Spider-Noir series will differ from the animated Spider-Verse films in three key ways, with one change being particularly interesting. The show centers on Ben Reilly, a former superhero who now works as a private investigator. He’ll be forced to confront his history and become Spider-Noir once again to protect New York City from new dangers.
The new Spider-Verse spin-off series is generating buzz because it promises a darker, more realistic take on Spider-Man’s story. It will also connect to the Spider-Verse movies thanks to Nicolas Cage reprising his role. However, it’s important to note that this show isn’t a direct sequel to the animated films, so expect some differences.
Every Major Difference Between Spider-Noir’s TV Series & Spider-Verse Movies
A Different Spider-Man Variant

The new trailer for Spider-Noir reveals the series will focus on Ben Reilly’s story, a departure from the Spider-Verse films. In those movies, Spider-Noir was presented as Peter Parker, but this upcoming live-action version seems to be facing tougher times – unlike the successful private investigator we saw in the films.
Chris Miller and Phil Lord, the producers of the film, shared that Nicolas Cage played Spider-Noir by envisioning the character, Ben Reilly, as a spider in disguise, acting like a human.
The decision to change Ben Reilly’s name might suggest a surprising development in the story. Fans know Ben is a clone of Peter Parker and later became the Scarlet Spider, so this change is particularly interesting. It’s unclear if this connects to the famous ‘Clone Saga’ storyline, but it’s a possibility worth watching. This version of Spider-Noir also has a slightly different secret identity, calling himself simply ‘The Spider’ in his world.
No Spider-Verse Supporting Characters

I’m really excited about the Spider-Noir series! It’s being set up as its own thing, a completely separate story. That means we won’t see any of the other Spider-People from the main Spider-Verse movies – no Hailee Steinfeld, Oscar Isaac, or Shameik Moore, at least not unless they throw us a surprise! It’s cool they’re giving this character space to really shine on its own.
I’m really excited about the cast they’ve assembled for this Spider-Man spin-off! While Nicolas Cage is taking on the role of Ben Reilly, everyone else is totally new. It’s cool they’re setting the show in a 1930s New York, and the actors really fit that vibe. I especially love the take on Black Cat with Li Jun Li, and it’s awesome to see Lamorne Morris playing Robbie Robertson – he was such a great character in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies!
Instead of appearing in the Spider-Verse movies, some villains will be featured in Spider-Noir. Jack Huston will play Sandman, and Joe Massingill will be Electro. The cast also includes Abraham Popoola, Karen Rodriguez, and Brendan Gleeson (known for his role in Joker: Folie à Deux), who will play the main villain, Silvermane.
Spider-Noir’s Universe in Color

Amazon MGM Studios announced that the new Spider-Noir series will offer a unique viewing experience similar to a director’s cut. Fans will be able to choose to watch the show either in full color or in classic black and white.
For the first time, fans will see Spider-Noir’s world in color, which will give it a fresh and distinct feel compared to the black-and-white depiction in the Spider-Verse films. Previously, his universe was exclusively shown in black and white in those movies.
