Batman Director Andy Muschetti Addresses Fan-Casting For The Dark Knight In James Gunn’s Live-Action DC Universe

After the huge success of the Superman movie, everyone is eager to see who will play Batman in the DC Universe, completing the famous World’s Finest duo.

The next Batman movie in the DC Universe, currently known as The Brave and the Bold, is being directed by Andy Muschietti, who also directed The Flash. While a release date hasn’t been announced, the film is expected to feature Bruce Wayne as Batman alongside his son, Damian Wayne, who takes on the role of Robin. Details about the story are still scarce.

I was reading CinemaBlend, and Andy Muschietti talked about all the fan-casting for the next Batman role – it’s been crazy, with everyone suggesting actors like Alan Ritchson, Jonathan Bailey, and Jensen Ackles! He said he always finds it interesting to see who fans are hoping for. His sister and producing partner, Barbara, chimed in that while she loves the passion of the fans, ultimately, it’s up to them to choose the cast they believe is right for the movie.

So, director Andy Muschietti has said he saw the fan casting suggestions, but didn’t necessarily use them. But James Gunn, the co-CEO of DC Studios, was much more upfront with me when I asked about Batman. He admitted he absolutely has actors in mind! He’s got a list of guys he likes, just like he did when he was figuring out who would play Superman. It sounds like he’s already got some strong preferences, which is exciting to hear.

Responding to speculation about who would be cast as the new Batman, Gunn acknowledged that some guesses might be correct. However, he hinted that the team was prioritizing more than just a famous actor, jokingly suggesting they wouldn’t cast someone similar to Sylvester Stallone in the role.

Although he generally avoided discussing casting, he did mention meeting with a well-known actor interested in playing Batman. However, Gunn emphasized that the upcoming film, The Brave and the Bold, needs to nail three key elements: a strong portrayal of the Batman character, a compelling script, and the right actor in the lead role.

As a huge DC fan, I’m really excited about The Brave and the Bold! We don’t have a firm release date yet, but most people are guessing it’ll hit theaters around 2028. The director is Andrés Muschietti, and Christina Hodson is writing the script, which is awesome news!
