Sailor Moon, still considered the most iconic magical girl anime, is teaming up with a newer series in a surprising crossover event.
Russell Curry, who played a Power Ranger, recently posted an edited version of his character’s transformation sequence from Power Rangers Dino Fury. He swapped out the original music for the famous theme song from the English dub of the Sailor Moon anime. Surprisingly, the two themes actually work really well together, highlighting the shared style and ’90s origins of both franchises.
Power Rangers’ Russell Curry Takes on a Surprising Sailor Moon Crossover
Russell Curry, who played the Red Ranger (Zayto) in the TV series Power Rangers Dino Fury, recently shared a video on Instagram. In the video, he transforms into the Red Ranger, but the music used is surprisingly different from the show’s original soundtrack. Dino Fury was one of the more recent Power Rangers series before the show went on a break.
Instead of the usual transformation music, we now see the characters changing while hearing the iconic theme song. This well-known tune, instantly recognizable to fans across the West for generations, is an English adaptation of the original Japanese song “Moonlight Densetsu,” complete with new lyrics. However, even this familiar music feels different when a Tyrannosaurus rex roars during the transformation.
Although these two brands don’t usually attract the same audience, the funny musical remix highlights their common roots in their respective styles. This anime series, more than any other magical girl show, .
One of the biggest inspirations for the Power Rangers series was Super Sentai. Starting in the 1990s, Power Rangers used footage from Super Sentai shows to create its action sequences and scenes with the giant robots, known as Zords. A good example is Power Rangers Dino Fury, which incorporated footage from Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger, a show featuring knights and dinosaurs.
The Sentai series is currently paused, with a new show taking its place. While there aren’t any new Sailor Moon anime planned right now, the franchise continues to release merchandise and maintain its brand over 30 years after the original manga first came out.
