6 MonsterVerse Titans Powerful Enough to Defeat Kong

Legendary Entertainment has become a reliable partner in the Godzilla franchise, working alongside Toho Studios in Japan. However, Western efforts to update the classic monster for modern audiences haven’t been very successful since the 2014 Godzilla film. Despite consistently negative reviews, the sequels have performed well at the box office, proving that fans enjoy the MonsterVerse and its creatures, and are eager for more.

The MonsterVerse has shown us several giant creatures, called Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organisms, or M.U.T.O.s. While some of these creatures are quite weak and wouldn’t stand a chance against a powerful Titan like King Kong, a few are strong enough to defeat him, though it wouldn’t be an easy fight.

Camazotz Can Defeat Kong Through His Aerial Advantage

The MonsterVerse expanded into comics in 2014, with the first issue coinciding with the release of Godzilla. The comics have featured many monsters, but Titanus Camazotz is particularly frightening. Its name, meaning “death bat,” reflects its appearance as a massive, monstrous bat with powers like echolocation and disorienting, high-pitched screams.

Camazotz can control storms, just like King Ghidorah, giving him everything he needs to defeat King Kong. Plus, Kong stays on the ground, while Camazotz can fly and attack from above. He could even grab Kong, lift him high into the air, and repeatedly drop him. However, Kong seemed unaffected by this strategy.

Camazotz emerged from the depths of Hollow Earth and confronted King Kong on Skull Island. The two fought on relatively even terms, but Camazotz initially gained the upper hand. However, a surprise attack – a fighter jet – startled him, breaking his focus. Kong quickly capitalized on this moment and defeated Camazotz. Had things gone differently, Camazotz would have drained Kong’s blood, leaving him completely lifeless.

Shimo’s Cryokinesis Can Freeze the Earth’s Oceans Solid

Shimo is an ancient, incredibly powerful titan capable of controlling the world’s climate. Known as the “Monster-Whose-Breath-Makes-The-Ocean-Into-Stone,” she’s considered one of the last of the original Alpha Titans living in Hollow Earth. Sadly, throughout most of her appearances in the MonsterVerse films, Shimo was controlled by Skar King.

Despite being naturally peaceful and kind, the Skar King twisted Shimo into a powerful weapon. Shimo is even more dangerous than Godzilla, possessing an icy breath created by a unique energy source that can essentially halt atomic movement. It’s no surprise, then, that Shimo was responsible for starting the last Ice Age. This immense power would completely destroy Kong – freezing him instantly before breaking him apart.

In their first fight, Shimo easily defeats Kong, driving him away. She then shows incredible power against Godzilla, establishing her as the stronger fighter. Luckily, Suko manages to rescue Shimo from the Skar King. Had Shimo been less kind, she could have easily finished off Kong after defeating the main villain, but thankfully, that didn’t happen.

Mechagodzilla Doesn’t Need Much Time to Dispatch Kong

Mechagodzilla first appeared in Toho’s films, and was later reimagined for the MonsterVerse. Built by Apex Cybernetics to help humans fight Godzilla, the robotic monster unexpectedly turned against its creators. It then unleashed a destructive attack on Hong Kong, leveling a large portion of the city using powers similar to Godzilla’s.

Mechagodzilla’s most powerful weapon is a strong red beam that even Godzilla’s atomic breath couldn’t overcome. However, what really sets Mechagodzilla apart is its incredible durability. Built entirely from solid metal, this ‘Titanium Titan’ can withstand almost any physical attack. Even a combined assault from Godzilla and King Kong barely scratched it.

Mechagodzilla isn’t just powerful – it’s equipped with a huge range of weapons, including crushing jaws, saw-like claws, jet boosters for quick movement, and a devastating drill on its tail. These features clearly demonstrate that Mechagodzilla is far more capable than Godzilla.

Skar King Was Both Stronger and Smarter Than King Kong

The Skar King, who considers himself the leader of the Great Apes from the Hollow Earth, once attempted to conquer the surface world. He’s much larger and more powerful than Kong, but it’s his utter ruthlessness that truly sets him apart. Overcoming such a brutal and intelligent enemy would have been nearly impossible.

The Skar King’s surprising intelligence is what allowed him to create his brutal empire, beginning with the enslavement of Shimo. In battle, though, he depends on speed and quickness rather than raw strength, skillfully avoiding even incredibly fast attacks like Godzilla’s atomic breath. Kong struggles to defeat the Skar King on his own and requires help to finally win.

In a direct fight, Kong would definitely win against the Skar King. Though the Skar King was a famous warrior long ago, he remained a powerful fighter even after thousands of years. It actually took a team effort – Suko, Godzilla, Shimo, and Kong all working together – to finally defeat him.

King Ghidorah Remains a Fearsome Force of Nature

Although King Ghidorah appeared in Godzilla vs. Kong, he hasn’t actually battled King Kong yet in the MonsterVerse. This massive, three-headed dragon first showed up in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, quickly establishing himself as a truly powerful and imposing titan. Like other major monsters, Ghidorah is considered a ‘daikaiju’ – a term for exceptionally large and dangerous creatures – and the MonsterVerse films treat him with the same level of respect, often referring to him as Monster Zero or The Devil with Three Heads.

King Ghidorah is incredibly hostile and powerful, and his range of abilities is astonishing. Like Shimo, he’s a Titan who generates bio-electrical energy. He can control meteors and often attracts lightning to himself, using storms to amplify his attacks. Ghidorah is also exceptionally durable – even Mechagodzilla wouldn’t stand much of a chance against him.

Even without all of its abilities, Ghidorah is incredibly dangerous, and it might even use a powerful Gravity Beam. Its atomic breath, a beam of electric light, comes from any of its three mouths – just one blast is enough to completely destroy Kong. Ghidorah can also create hurricanes with its wings, adding to the devastation of its lightning attacks. Ultimately, Kong doesn’t stand a chance against King Ghidorah.

Godzilla Has Been Gaining Power Since His MonsterVerse Introduction

Godzilla has endured as a cultural icon since his debut in 1953, often playing the role of a villain, hero, or something in between. He represents the consequences of humanity’s impact on nature, making him more complex than a simple bad guy. In recent films like those in the MonsterVerse, Godzilla has evolved into a protective force – a powerful, ancient being who rises to defend the Earth when it’s threatened.

Godzilla and King Kong have clashed multiple times, and Godzilla has almost always won. In both fights in Godzilla vs. Kong, Godzilla clearly defeated Kong – once at sea and again in Hong Kong. Even their quick fight in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire suggested that Kong wouldn’t have been able to win against the King of the Monsters.

Godzilla might not be as physically strong as monsters like Mechagodzilla and King Ghidorah, or as agile as Camazotz, and he doesn’t have ice powers like Shimo. However, his greatest strength is his ability to learn from battles and adjust his strategies. He could defeat King Kong if they ever fought, but thankfully, they’re allies. Kong is lucky to have Godzilla on his side.
