5 Most Important Facts You’d Only Know If You Read the One Piece Manga

Since 1997, this manga has been a remarkable and beloved story for fans, and it continues to get even better with each new installment. Eiichiro Oda consistently delivers, skillfully weaving clues and mysteries throughout One Piece, especially connecting the current Final Saga to events from the beginning. The unfolding story of the God Valley Incident has become a truly epic plotline, linking past events to the future in a compelling way.

As a huge One Piece fan, I’ve noticed something that really bothers me. Even setting aside the Elbaph Arc changes, the anime consistently leaves out or downplays details that were actually pretty important in the manga. And honestly, it feels like they fill those gaps with a lot of fluff – little side stories and tons of text boxes that aren’t always crucial. When you put it all together, it’s clear that anime-only viewers are missing out on key details that could really add to the bigger picture of the story. It’s frustrating because those details matter!

The Going Merry & Thousand Sunny Have Detailed Blueprints

Both the anime and manga versions of One Piece feature the Straw Hats using the Going Merry for many adventures after first appearing in Syrup Village, particularly before and during the Water 7 Saga. While the anime shows a lot of detail about the ship, the original designs come from creator Eiichiro Oda. According to Oda’s blueprints, the Going Merry‘s main room serves multiple purposes – it’s a lounge, meeting space, and kitchen all in one. Below that is the cannon deck and storage area, which leads directly to the women’s quarters, complete with a bar.

Eiichiro Oda later shared detailed blueprints of the Thousand Sunny in an SBS segment. While anime viewers got a glimpse of the ship in One Piece 3D: Straw Hat Chase, Oda’s drawings provided much more comprehensive information. He thoroughly explained the ship’s combat and defense features, noting that the living quarters for both men and women were larger than those on the Going Merry. Oda even described the bathrooms in detail, and the kitchen included a huge, lockable refrigerator to stop Luffy from overeating! The Thousand Sunny also boasts a sick bay, an aquarium bar, a library, and dedicated workspaces for the crew. Fans can find a wealth of information in Oda’s architectural designs and are encouraged to study the blueprints themselves.

Yamato Has Been on a Pilgrimage for the Last 44 One Piece Cover Pages

I have to say, Yamato was instantly one of my favorite characters during the Wano arc – seeing him team up with Luffy against Kaido was awesome! It was a little sad when the main story moved past him after that huge battle, but the author hasn’t forgotten about him! For the last 44 chapters, there’s been this ongoing little story on the manga’s cover pages called Oni Child Yamato’s Golden Harvest Surrogate Pilgrimage. It’s a super slow burn – just one new panel per chapter – but it’s been really cool to follow Yamato as he decides to follow in Oden’s footsteps and travel around Wano, essentially retracing Oden’s journey.

Before setting off on his adventure, Yamato spent time with characters like Momonosuke and Nekomamushi. The cover pages of the manga showed Yamato interacting with different people and places, emphasizing his strong desire to fully understand and connect with Wano. His journey, inspired by Oden, was filled with action, mystery, and emotional moments, unfolding gradually with each chapter. It seems Yamato’s pilgrimage concluded in One Piece Chapter 1162, where the cover page declared that peace had returned to Wano. While Oda often draws fan requests for the covers, his stories focused on characters, like Yamato’s journey, are what truly captivate readers.

Eiiichiro Oda Reveals That Devil Fruits Affect All Body Parts

I’ve noticed something interesting about Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece. Even when fans ask really odd questions – and they often do, especially about, well, let’s just say private areas and Devil Fruits – he actually responds! He’ll playfully scold them for asking such things, which is funny, but he also tries to give thoughtful answers alongside the jokes. It’s led a lot of fans to speculate about the full extent of what Devil Fruits can do. While we’ll probably never see any of this explored in the manga, Oda’s willingness to address these questions has definitely sparked some creative thinking among the fanbase.

A memorable question-and-answer section in One Piece Volume 8 revealed that Luffy’s body, including his anatomy, is as stretchy as the rest of him – this was confirmed by creator Eiichiro Oda way back in 1999, before the anime even started! This sparked a lot of funny questions from fans about other characters, leading to surprising and humorous answers about Buggy, Marco, Gladius, Jozu, and Nico Robin. While a bit risqué, these details are a fun example of Oda’s sense of humor and show how much he enjoys interacting with his fans.

Enel Uncovered an Ancient Civilization on the Moon

During the Skypiea saga, Enel shared his ambition to reach Fairy Vearth, a legendary world completely devoid of water. He then revealed how he planned to do so, firing the Arc Maxim at the moon. The ninth chapter, titled Enel’s Great Space Operations, explores some of the most bizarre elements of the One Piece world. For a long time, fans have speculated about the moon, space, and the possibility of alien life, and this storyline offers some intriguing answers. Enel not only makes it to the moon but also discovers automatons living there. Soon after, a group of Space Pirates arrive and begin attacking the peaceful robots. True to his character, Enel doesn’t intervene until the Space Pirates’ captain, Seamars, directly attacks him.

Enel travels to a different part of the moon, and the robots hint at where they came from: Karakuri Island, the place Franky spent his two years training. They explain they came to the moon to fight the Space Pirates, who were responsible for the death of their creator. Surprisingly, Enel easily defeats both the pirates and the robots, then discovers an ancient city hidden beneath the moon’s surface. When he releases his electricity, the city instantly comes back to life, revealing that many communities originally came to Earth from the moon – suggesting a larger story to come. Despite this discovery, Enel is still determined to fight Luffy again.

Bon Clay Replaced Ivankov as Queen of Newkama Land

Bon Clay, once known as Mr. 2 of Baroque Works, became a fan favorite when he bravely distracted the Marines, allowing the Straw Hat Pirates to escape. This act of courage led to his imprisonment in Impel Down. He didn’t hesitate to risk his life again, assisting Luffy’s chaotic escape from the prison. In a surprising and selfless move, Bon Clay sacrificed himself to stay behind, cleverly deceiving the guards and opening the path for Luffy through the Gates of Justice.

Mr. 2, also known as Bon Kurei, was last seen fighting the incredibly powerful Magellan, and his survival was uncertain until a recent cover story in Chapter 666. This story, set during the Fish-Man Island arc, confirmed that he had survived. Although still imprisoned in Impel Down, Bon Kurei has taken over leadership from Emporio Ivankov and become the new ruler of Newkama Land. This unique area within Impel Down, located on Level 5.5, is a miniature version of the outside world’s Kamabakka Kingdom. During the two-year timeskip in One Piece, Bon Kurei used his time to flourish within Impel Down, and many fans believe we may see another prison escape attempt before the series ends.
