Everyone knows the Hulk is incredibly strong, but is he the strongest? Mark Ruffalo is back as Bruce Banner/the Hulk in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and while the Hulk is usually considered one of the MCU’s most powerful heroes, a few other Avengers actually surpass his strength.
Several characters, including former rivals and new heroes eager to prove themselves, are more powerful than the Hulk as depicted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although most wouldn’t be able to defeat the Hulk from the comics, a number of heroes could go toe-to-toe with the movie version.
Thor Has Proven to Be Stronger Than the Hulk
Fans used to debate who would win in a fight between Thor and the Hulk. That question was finally answered in Thor: Ragnarok, when the two characters battled on the planet Sakaar. Thor initially tries to avoid fighting the Hulk, but they eventually engage in one of the most impressive hero-versus-hero fights in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Despite winning the arena fight, the scene implies Thor is actually stronger than the Hulk. Thor’s hidden powers protect him from a potentially deadly attack during the duel, and when he fully unlocks them by the film’s end, he clearly becomes much more powerful. If they fought again, he would easily defeat the Hulk.
Captain Marvel’s Cosmic Powers Make Her a Powerhouse
Brie Larson plays Carol Danvers, also known as Captain Marvel. She’s an incredibly powerful character fueled by the energy of the Space Stone, and she significantly boosts the Avengers’ strength when she joins them in Avengers: Endgame. Since appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she’s easily defeated some of its biggest and most dangerous villains, even Thanos.
Even though Captain Marvel and the Hulk haven’t battled each other yet, most people would expect Captain Marvel to win. In the comic books, the Hulk could potentially defeat her, particularly if he got even angrier and stronger. However, the Marvel Cinematic Universe hasn’t established a clear link between the Hulk’s anger and his strength, so it’s improbable that the current version of the Hulk could beat Captain Marvel.
Doctor Strange Harnesses Supernatural Powers Beyond the Hulk’s Strength
Doctor Strange is often underestimated as one of the most powerful heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Benedict Cumberbatch’s character has become a master of magic, studying spells and the mystic arts from different dimensions. He’s repeatedly faced and defeated incredibly powerful, cosmic threats, demonstrating his immense strength.
While the Hulk is incredibly strong, he’s no match for the powerful magic of Doctor Strange. Strange proved he could withstand Thanos – who easily overpowered the Hulk – so defeating Bruce Banner in his Hulk form wouldn’t be difficult. A single spell could either send the Hulk to another dimension or completely immobilize him.
What makes Doctor Strange so compelling is his constant growth. As a dedicated learner, Stephen Strange never stops improving his skills in the Mystic Arts. He’s already powerful enough to likely defeat the Hulk, but he’ll only become even more capable and formidable in the future.
G’iah Is Annoyingly Overpowered
The series not only continues the story, but also introduces G’iah, a remarkably powerful new hero. Played by Emilia Clarke, G’iah is a Skrull warrior who receives a significant power boost after being exposed to a special mix of DNA from various Avengers, gathered by Nick Fury. This transformation into the Super Skrull grants her amazing abilities, such as Captain Marvel’s cosmic energy and the combined strength of multiple Avengers.
Even though the Secret Skrull’s powers seem unbelievable, she’s undeniably one of the strongest heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. G’iah could easily win a fight against the Hulk, and probably very quickly, using one of her many incredibly powerful abilities. Luckily for the Hulk, it doesn’t seem like G’iah will appear in future MCU projects after the events of Secret Invasion.
After the disappointing response to the Secret Invasion series in 2023, it’s unlikely we’ll see G’iah or other new characters from the show in the MCU for a while. However, the ending of the series left the door open for G’iah to potentially return someday, so the Hulk might want to be prepared!
The Scarlet Witch May Be the MCU’s Most Powerful Hero
Among the most powerful characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Scarlet Witch stands out. Originally introduced as a villain, the character – played by Elizabeth Olsen – eventually becomes a hero, joining the Avengers. However, after experiencing a devastating loss, she tragically returns to villainy, becoming one of the MCU’s strongest threats.
Wanda Maximoff, as portrayed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is an exceptionally powerful version of the character. She’s naturally a mutant with amazing reality-bending abilities, and those powers were further amplified by both the Mind Stone and experiments conducted by Hydra. As the Scarlet Witch, she’s destined to play a crucial part in the future of the entire multiverse, wielding magic that can affect realities beyond her own.
As a huge MCU fan, it’s honestly terrifying to think about how powerful Scarlet Witch is. Most heroes just wouldn’t stand a chance against her! It seems like only someone with very specific abilities, like Doctor Strange or America Chavez, could even try to beat her, and even then, it’d be a close call. Poor Hulk, with all his incredible strength… he’d be no match. I really believe her powers could take on a thousand Hulks at once, and win!
Although the Hulk is incredibly powerful in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, several characters are even stronger. Heroes such as Thor, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, G’iah, and Scarlet Witch demonstrate that the Hulk’s claim of being “the strongest there is” might not actually be true.
