5 Game of Thrones TV Shows in Development, Including Sequels to HBO Hit

After HBO renewed House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms yesterday, author George R.R. Martin revealed that the network is working on five or six additional Game of Thrones spin-off series.

The new series arrives more than six years after the original show ended its eight-season run. Even though the final season received some criticism, the drama remains highly rated, currently holding an 89% average score on Rotten Tomatoes.

What did George R.R. Martin say about the new Game of Thrones spin-offs?

George R.R. Martin recently discussed upcoming Game of Thrones projects in an interview with Los Siete Reinos. He shared that while many of the new shows are set before the events of the original series, they are also exploring possibilities for sequels that continue the story.

George R.R. Martin revealed that, in addition to ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ and ‘House of the Dragon’, several other ‘Game of Thrones’ spin-off series are being created. Most of these new shows will be set in the past, acting as prequels. He estimates around five or six shows are currently in development, and he’s collaborating with other writers and creators. He also confirmed that some sequels are also being considered.

Game of Thrones, developed for television by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, was inspired by George R.R. Martin’s book series, A Song of Ice and Fire. The series featured a large and talented cast, including Emilia Clarke, Lena Headey, Kit Harington, Peter Dinklage, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, and many others. It received critical acclaim and won an impressive 59 Emmy Awards from a total of 161 nominations.
