3 Years After The Finale, Better Call Saul Just Got Even Better

Even though it received a lot of positive reviews, Better Call Saul didn’t become as popular as Breaking Bad. However, now that the show has been out for three years, more people are starting to recognize its quality. The characters in Better Call Saul are just as well-developed and complicated as those in Breaking Bad, and many viewers feel that Kim Wexler, Jimmy McGill’s partner, is particularly compelling.

Rhea Seehorn’s performance as Kim Wexler was outstanding, and her recent starring role in the Apple TV+ series Pluribus has brought renewed attention to Better Call Saul. Pluribus is also the latest show from Vince Gilligan, the creator of both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.

Better Call Saul’s Rhea Seehorn Is Shining In Pluribus

The series Pluribus centers on Carol, portrayed by Rhea Seehorn. Carol is a complex character – humorous, strong-willed, and dealing with both grief and trauma, which makes her someone people have strong reactions to. Seehorn brilliantly captures all these layers in her performance, and so far, she’s been essentially carrying the show with a standout, career-defining performance.

As a total film buff, I’ve been completely captivated by Pluribus, and a huge part of that is Rhea Seehorn’s performance. It’s essentially a one-woman show! Whether she’s portraying the intense emotional rollercoaster of drug use, seemingly just talking to her camera, or even standing there while fireworks explode around her, looking utterly heartbroken, Seehorn manages to convey Carol’s incredibly layered personality. It’s a really demanding role, and she absolutely nails it – her acting skills are undeniable.

And she’s succeeded. Pluribus is now the most-watched show in Apple TV history.

Pluribus Can Give Rhea Seehorn The Awards She Deserved For Better Call Saul

Sony Pictures Television

Rhea Seehorn received critical acclaim for her performance in Better Call Saul, earning nominations for two Emmys and three Critics’ Choice Awards. Despite this recognition, she didn’t win any of those awards, and her talent wasn’t fully celebrated. Now, with Pluribus, the effort to establish Rhea Seehorn as a well-known actress is finally gaining momentum.

Rhea Seehorn has already received a Golden Globe nomination for her role in Pluribus, a first for her career after not receiving one for Better Call Saul. She’s also been nominated for Critics’ Choice and Satellite Awards for playing Carol. With Pluribus attracting a large audience, many believe an Emmy Award could be within her reach.

Kim Wexler Stole The Show In Better Call Saul

I always loved that Jimmy McGill, or Saul Goodman, had this way of being funny and genuinely good-hearted, which made me root for him way more than I ever did for Walter White. It also meant he could kind of get away with being a little bit of a con artist, because you understood where he was coming from. But honestly, it was Kim Wexler who really showed how tough it was to balance doing the right thing with bending the rules. Her struggle was what made the show so emotionally powerful, for me at least.

Throughout most of the series, Kim was deeply conflicted. She truly loved Jimmy and recognized the good in him that others, like Chuck and Howard, consistently missed. But she also saw his flaws, and what made her character so compelling was that she found those flaws appealing as well.

Rhea Seehorn brilliantly showed Kim’s feelings – how bored she was with her ordinary life, and how exciting it was to get involved in Jimmy’s world, even though she knew she shouldn’t. Her performance captured the emotional journey of someone moving away from a normal life and the complex feelings that come with it, highlighting the distance between Kim’s initial life and Jimmy’s.

The most compelling part of Better Call Saul was always Seehorn’s performance. Thankfully, Pluribus is now giving her the spotlight she deserves, and she’s delivering an absolutely outstanding performance.
