Be warned, this article contains spoilers for The Mandalorian and Grogu! The new Star Wars movie, The Mandalorian and Grogu, is the first return to theaters in years, and it’s best experienced on the largest screen possible. This film is a major event for the entire Star Wars universe of movies and television. It arrives almost seven years after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker—a film generally considered one of the weakest in the franchise—and many see The Mandalorian and Grogu as a fresh start for Star Wars.
Things are changing at Lucasfilm. Earlier this year, Kathleen Kennedy left her role as President, and Dave Filoni and Lynwen Brennan stepped in as co-Presidents. This shift means Star Wars needs to win back fans and breathe new life into the franchise, which has primarily been a TV focus for several years. It’s a lot to ask, but The Mandalorian and Grogu have taken a surprisingly fresh and successful approach with their recent movie release.
These days, after a new movie comes out, people often wonder if it’s best seen in theaters or if it’s okay to wait and stream it at home. However, the new Star Wars film isn’t just worth seeing in theaters—it demands to be seen on the biggest screen possible, and IMAX is the ideal way to experience it. Several elements of The Mandalorian and Grogu really shine and make IMAX the best choice for this film.
The Mandalorian And Grogu’s Action Sequences Are Made For IMAX
I’ve been following the reactions to The Mandalorian and Grogu, and it seems like people have really mixed feelings so far. The critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes isn’t great right now, sitting at 61%. But honestly, what really stands out to me is the action. From the start, the fight scenes have been amazing! Seeing Din Djarin use his skills as a Mandalorian, combined with Grogu learning to use the Force, and moments like those AT-AT explosions… it’s just incredible.
Ultimately, IMAX is the perfect way to see this film – it’s clear the filmmakers designed it with the large format in mind. On the biggest screen possible, The Mandalorian and Grogu transforms into a truly thrilling and immersive adventure. While the exciting moments would still be captivating in a standard theater, IMAX delivers the best possible experience.
Star Wars Fans Should Take The (Rare, For Now) Opportunity
Beyond offering a more immersive experience in IMAX, Star Wars isn’t currently releasing films as frequently as it used to, or as consistently as other big franchises like the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While several Star Wars movies are planned, the only one with a definite release date is Star Wars: Starfighter, scheduled to come out on May 28, 2027.
With new Star Wars movies being released infrequently, fans should definitely see them in IMAX while they have the chance. While the recent leadership changes might lead to more frequent theatrical releases in the future, that isn’t happening yet, so don’t miss out!
The Mandalorian And Grogu Won’t Be In Theaters Forever
With The Mandalorian and Grogu now playing in theaters for a limited time, fans should see it soon. It’s unclear exactly how long it will be shown, but likely just for a few weeks. After that, opportunities to see it on the big screen, especially with special features, will be very rare. Unless you can rent an IMAX theater—which isn’t realistic for most—now is the best time to experience it.
While you’ll eventually be able to watch The Mandalorian and Grogu on Disney+, it won’t compare to the excitement of seeing Din Djarin and Grogu battle enemies on a giant IMAX screen.
