3 New Duffer Brothers Shows Coming to Netflix In 2026

Now that Matt and Ross Duffer, the creators of Stranger Things, are starting a deal with Paramount, they also have three new shows in development with Netflix. They signed a four-year contract with Paramount in August 2025 to create films, TV series, and streaming content.

Once the Duffer Brothers‘ current contract with Netflix ends in April, their new deal with Paramount will begin. However, they’ll still be creatively involved in any Stranger Things spin-off series announced for Netflix. They also have other projects in development at Netflix through their production company, Upside Down Pictures.

According to Deadline, the creators of Stranger Things have three new shows planned for Netflix in 2026. While specific release dates haven’t been announced, each series will connect to their earlier hit in some way. The shows are titled The Boroughs, Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen, and a Stranger Things spin-off called Tales From ’85.

The new series The Boroughs is a supernatural drama set in a charming retirement community. It centers on a group of unlikely friends who must work together to stop a mysterious creature that’s stealing time. The show stars Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Bill Pullman, Clarke Peters, and Denis O’Hare. Created by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, with the Duffer brothers as executive producers, first-look images from The Boroughs have been released.

Actor Notable Credits
Alfred Molina Spider-Man 2, Frida
Geena Davis Thelma & Louise, A League of Their Own
Alfre Woodard Clemency, 12 Years a Slave
Bill Pullman Independence Day, While You Were Sleeping
Clarke Peters The Wire, Treme
Denis O’Hare American Horror Story, True Blood

Carlos Miranda The Bling Ring, Vida
Seth Numrich Turn: Washington’s Spies, Homeland

The upcoming limited series, Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen, is a spooky horror story set during a wedding. The show follows the bride, played by Camila Morrone (known from Daisy Jones & the Six), and the groom, Adam DiMarco (The White Lotus, Overcompensating), in the days before their wedding, which clearly doesn’t go as planned. Hailey Z. Burns created and is running the series.

The animated spinoff, Tales From ’85, is set between seasons two and three of Stranger Things. The series will follow familiar characters as they battle new creatures from the Upside Down. A new cast of voice actors will bring these characters to life, including Brooklyn Davey Norstedt as Eleven, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Max, Luca Diaz as Mike, Ej Williams as Lucas, Braxton Quinney as Dustin, Ben Plessala as Will, and Brett Gipson as Hopper.

A live-action spin-off of Stranger Things is officially in the works. However, creators The Duffer Brothers have clarified that this new show won’t continue the original story, but will explore a different angle. The brothers recently moved to Paramount Pictures partly because they want their projects to be shown in movie theaters, though they will continue working with Netflix as well.
