3 Best Movies To Watch On Prime Video This Week (Nov 10-14)

Prime Video has a huge library of over 15,000 movies, which can make it hard for subscribers to choose something to watch. Amazon constantly updates its selection, adding new films each month while also removing others as they become available on different streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, and HBO Max. This frequent change makes browsing for movies even more challenging.

As a total movie buff, I’ve been checking out what’s new on Prime Video, and let me tell you, they’ve really got something for everyone this week! I’m talking everything from Oscar-winning dramas and classic film noir to a recent hit that has a sequel I’ve been eagerly anticipating just around the corner. Seriously, Prime Video has movies for everyone this week.

Good Will Hunting (1997)

The film Good Will Hunting launched the careers of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. They not only acted in the movie, but they also won Academy Awards for writing its screenplay. Damon played Will Hunting, a brilliant young mathematician from a difficult background who had the opportunity to change his life.

Robin Williams truly shined in this film, delivering a powerful dramatic performance as Will’s mentor – a role that earned him an Academy Award. The movie, directed by Gus Van Sant, is a standout work and widely considered a career highlight for both Damon and Affleck, as well as for Williams himself.

Prime Video has a lot of great dramas to choose from this week, and if you’re a fan of 90s movies, you can’t go wrong with Good Will Hunting. Even if you don’t watch anything else, it’s worth seeing for Robin Williams’ incredible, award-winning performance.

Double Indemnity (1944)

Widely considered a classic film noir, Double Indemnity is a must-see movie and is currently streaming on Prime Video. Directed by Billy Wilder, it’s often ranked among his greatest works. The film’s title comes from an insurance term central to the plot, which revolves around a woman’s deadly plan.

Okay, let me tell you about Double Indemnity. Barbara Stanwyck is absolutely magnetic as Phyllis Dietrichson, a femme fatale who decides her husband needs to… disappear. She ropes in Fred MacMurray, playing an insurance salesman named Walter Neff, into her scheme. The key? She discovers a loophole in the insurance policy – a ‘double indemnity’ clause – meaning double the payout if the death looks like an accident. It’s a classic setup for a brilliantly twisted noir, and Stanwyck is just phenomenal.

Barbara Stanwyck brilliantly portrays the captivating and dangerous woman at the heart of the story, while Fred MacMurray perfectly plays the naive man she manipulates. The film culminates in a surprising and unforgettable twist, making it a classic, darkly atmospheric noir that received seven Academy Award nominations, despite not winning any. In 1992, it was recognized for its cultural significance and added to the National Film Registry.

Wicked (2024)

Just in time for the release of Wicked: For Life this Thanksgiving, the original Wicked movie is now available to stream on Prime Video. The film tells the story of the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good before the events of The Wizard of Oz begin.

This film adapts the story from Gregory Maguire’s novel, but it’s most directly inspired by the Broadway musical written by Winnie Holzman. The performances are outstanding, especially from Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, who sing beautifully, and director John M. Chu expertly captures their energy on screen.

If you’re looking for a good movie to stream on Prime Video this week, the original Wicked is a great choice! It’s available now, just as the story continues with Wicked: For Life.
