About My Father
This funny movie immediately reminded people of Meet the Parents – both films center around a man about to propose while meeting his girlfriend’s family, and Robert De Niro plays the father in both. However, that similarity didn’t do About My Father any favors with reviewers, and the 2023 film didn’t receive much attention.
Despite not being a constant stream of jokes like Meet the Parents, About My Father has a genuine charm. Inspired by Sebastian Maniscalco’s real family, the movie builds a heartwarming relationship between him and Robert De Niro, focusing on the importance of acceptance. It’s a worthwhile watch, and now you can stream it on Netflix.
