There are several great new movies and shows on Netflix right now, and two of them are already popular with viewers in the US. Last week, I checked out State of Fear, The Black Phone, and How to Train Your Dragon and wanted to share my thoughts.
Netflix has some gripping new movies this weekend! All three picks are packed with action, but be warned – one is especially emotional. You’ll find what many consider a top-tier film, the beginning of a thrilling action series, and a suspenseful survival story.
3. Fall (2022)
Leading the pack is Fall, a 2022 thriller that’s proven to be Netflix’s biggest hit out of three releases so far. As of today, Fall, which premiered in the U.S. on February 19th, is the second most popular movie on Netflix across the country. Viewers are clearly enjoying it, as evidenced by its 79% approval rating from both critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.
The movie Fall centers around best friends Becky, played by Grace Caroline Currey, and Hunter, played by Virginia Gardner, both skilled climbers. They attempt a dangerous climb up a 2,000-foot abandoned radio tower in the desert, hoping to help one of them overcome depression.
Although the climb itself isn’t difficult, the group quickly becomes stranded at the top. Watching their struggle to survive and find a way down is a thrilling experience that’s sure to get your heart racing on Netflix.
2. The Expendables (2010)
If you’re looking for action this weekend, check out The Expendables on Netflix! All four movies in the series became available in the US on February 20th. The first film boasts an incredible cast, including Sylvester Stallone, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Bruce Willis, and Arnold Schwarzenegger, among others.
The Expendables delivers thrilling, over-the-top action sequences with impressive explosions and creative stunts. It’s a dream come true for action movie lovers, and the first film is a fantastic beginning to a high-octane adventure. The story centers around a group of highly skilled mercenaries who take on a mission to remove a dictator, only to uncover a much larger plot.
1. The Iron Claw (2023)
Ultimately, The Iron Claw is a difficult, but not poorly made, film to watch. In fact, it deserved multiple Academy Award nominations, and its lack of recognition is disappointing. The movie tells the story of the famous Von Erich family of wrestlers.
The movie features multiple deaths within the family, delivering a series of emotionally devastating moments for both the characters and the audience. Zac Efron delivers what is widely considered his strongest performance to date as Kevin Von Erich, offering a sensitive and moving portrayal that deeply resonates with viewers.
Prepare to be deeply moved by this film, which has earned a 94% audience approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The Iron Claw features a talented cast including Jeremy Allen White (known from The Bear), Lily James (from Cinderella), and Holt McCallany (of Mindhunter). Since its release on Netflix in the US on February 19th, it’s quickly become one of the platform’s most popular movies, currently ranking as its 7th most-watched. All three films are emotionally powerful and gripping to watch on Netflix.
