Looking for something to watch this weekend? Netflix has a great selection, and I’ve put together a diverse list with something for everyone. They’ve been releasing a lot of Christmas movies lately, and with the holidays just around the corner, I highly recommend checking out one of the currently trending Christmas films.
I didn’t want the movie list to only include Christmas films, since subscribers will be watching those next week. So, I added a new sci-fi disaster movie and the first films in a popular action series to give everyone some exciting options for the weekend.
3. The Great Flood (2025)
I was so excited to kick off the weekend by finally watching “The Great Flood” on Netflix – it dropped last Friday, December 19th! It’s a Korean film, and honestly, the premise is gripping. It’s all about a massive flood that’s basically wiping out the world, and it follows a group of people just trying to survive in one apartment building as everything falls apart – they think it’s their last day on Earth.
With the world facing a catastrophic flood, one woman holds the key to survival, but she’s focused on a more personal mission: rescuing her son. The new Netflix film blends the suspense of disaster movies like The Impossible with science fiction, as Kim Da-mi’s character has the power to potentially create a new generation of humans.
2. Transformers (2007)
If you’re in the mood for sci-fi action, Netflix subscribers should definitely check out Transformers this weekend. The original movie, directed by Michael Bay, is widely considered the best in the series, offering thrilling explosions alongside a well-developed world and memorable human characters.
The movie Transformers will be removed from Netflix on December 25th, meaning you won’t be able to enjoy it over the Christmas holiday. If you’re a fan, now’s a great time to watch it this weekend! Seeing Shia LaBeouf as Sam Witwicky team up with the Autobots is always a fun experience.
1. My Secret Santa (2025)
With Christmas just around the corner, it feels right to finish this list with a holiday movie. I highly recommend My Secret Santa on Netflix for a cozy weekend watch. It stars Alexandra Breckenridge, who many Netflix viewers will recognize from her popular role in Virgin River.
In the movie My Secret Santa, Jennifer Breckenridge stars as a single mother who cleverly disguises herself as an elderly man to land a job as Santa Claus at a ski resort. She does this so her daughter can finally take the snowboarding lessons she’s been hoping for. Currently, it’s the 4th most popular movie on Netflix globally (according to FlixPatrol), but it’s only 9th in the U.S. – and many viewers think it deserves a higher ranking!
