This weekend, Netflix has a great lineup of movies, including a new installment in one of its most popular franchises. Netflix has become the leading streaming service, and that means they’re making more and more original films. We’ll take a look at their holiday selections next week, but for now, there’s plenty to enjoy right now.
I’m so excited about the movies coming to Netflix this weekend! I think subscribers are going to be on the edge of their seats – there’s a really gripping murder mystery, a psychological thriller that’ll keep you guessing, and a fantastic superhero movie that deserves way more attention. It’s going to be a seriously good binge-watching weekend, trust me!
3. Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery (2025)
Leading the charge this week is a film expected to be hugely popular on Netflix. Director Rian Johnson successfully brought the classic murder mystery back to life with Knives Out, and continued the story with the equally impressive Glass Onion. Now, the series is returning for a third installment, titled Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.
In “Wake Up Dead Man,” Daniel Craig returns as the detective Benoit Blanc to solve a murder in a close-knit town with ties to the local church. The movie keeps the funny moments fans love, but also introduces a darker, more Gothic atmosphere that adds complexity and keeps the series interesting. The film boasts a star-studded cast including Jeremy Renner, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Josh O’Connor, and Glenn Close, among others.
2. The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999)
I recently enjoyed a murder mystery, and it made me think of two things that pair well together: the book Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, and a short film currently showing in theaters. This film is a prologue to Christopher Nolan’s upcoming movie, The Odyssey, which is scheduled to release in 2026, and stars Matt Damon as Odysseus.
Now is the perfect time to watch or revisit The Talented Mr. Ripley. This 1999 film stars Matt Damon as Tom Ripley, a charming con artist who inserts himself into the world of Dickie Greenleaf, played by Jude Law. Filled with unexpected twists, the movie features captivating performances from both Damon and Law, and is brimming with style, mystery, and suspense.
1. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014)
If you’re looking for a fun and exciting movie to watch on Netflix before the weekend ends, check out the 2014 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot. It’s a fast-paced adventure featuring some really likable heroes. Just a heads-up: this hidden gem will be leaving Netflix next Wednesday, December 17th.
There isn’t much time left to check out this fun family movie! Featuring stars like Alan Ritchson (known from Reacher) and Megan Fox (Transformers), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem earned $485 million at the box office as the Turtles battled Shredder. The movie perfectly captures the brothers’ playful relationship and is available on Netflix.
