Netflix has some great movie options for a weekend get-together, and these three releases seem particularly good choices for the last weekend of March. Last week, I highlighted Saw X, Nobody 2, and Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man as recommendations.
Netflix recently added a bunch of movies, including some brand new Originals. This week’s selection is a little different – it features films Netflix has licensed rather than produced themselves. But that doesn’t make it any less interesting! There’s a great variety, with options like a mind-bending thriller, a laugh-out-loud comedy, and a large-scale science fiction adventure to choose from.
3. Anatomy of a Fall (2023)
Let’s start with Anatomy of a Fall, which became available on Netflix on March 23rd. If you haven’t seen this critically acclaimed thriller – a standout film from the past few years – now’s a great time to watch it. It was nominated for five Academy Awards.
The film Anatomy of a Fall won Best Original Screenplay, highlighting its compelling story. The movie centers on Sandra Voyter, played by Sandra Hüller, and her struggle to prove she didn’t kill her husband. This psychological thriller delves into the complex relationships between Sandra, her husband, and their son, presenting evidence both for and against her guilt.
2. Anaconda (2025)
The 2025 film Anaconda is a far cry from the 1997 horror classic. This new version is a comedy-horror that follows two friends, played by Paul Rudd and Jack Black, who are fans of the original and decide to recreate it by filming in the Amazon rainforest. While the movie isn’t a masterpiece, Rudd and Black’s comedic chemistry makes it an easy and enjoyable watch.
The creative elements in the new Anaconda movie let filmmakers explore some really exciting ideas. As of today, the 2025 film has a 75% audience approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Featuring a surprising plot twist and a talented cast including Steve Zahn, Daniela Melchior, Selton Mello, and Thandiwe Newton, Anaconda is currently the most popular movie on Netflix in the U.S.
1. The Creator (2023)
Rounding out the list is a captivating sci-fi film from the last few years. Despite an $80 million budget, director Gareth Edwards crafted a visually breathtaking experience. Starring John David Washington, The Creator is a beautiful and thought-provoking movie.
This science fiction film dives into big ideas – artificial intelligence, the damaging effects of war, and what it means to be alive. It’s a smart movie that balances exciting action sequences with quieter, more meaningful scenes focused on the characters. Director Edwards is well-known in the genre, having previously directed films like Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Jurassic World Rebirth. Considering it was the 8th most-watched movie on Netflix in the US, it’s definitely worth checking out this weekend.
