Marvel Studios has shared another short preview for Avengers: Doomsday, which is now showing in cinemas before Avatar: Fire and Ash. The new clip brings back a beloved Avenger and hints at a storyline from their previous adventures that will likely be emotionally impactful.
Love and Thunder return in Avengers: Doomsday’s second teaser
I was so excited to see the first teaser confirmed Steve Rogers would be back, and now the second one focuses on another favorite – Chris Hemsworth as Thor! This new teaser shows a much more serious and thoughtful Thor than we’ve seen before, and it’s clear they’re really digging into his emotions. It’s a big change for the character, and I’m really intrigued to see where they take him.
The second teaser for Avengers: Doomsday shows Thor with the short haircut he had in Avengers: Infinity War. He’s walking through a large forest and pauses to seemingly pray to his deceased father, Odin, and other All-Fathers. The teaser has a somber and serious mood, which is quite different from the more playful tone of Thor: Love and Thunder.
The trailer shows a touching moment of Thor reflecting on destiny and duty, then cuts to him comforting his daughter, Love, in bed. India Rose Hemsworth, who plays Love and is actually Chris Hemsworth’s daughter, was last seen when Thor adopted her after the loss of her biological father. This confirms Love will be back for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie.
Thor seems to understand he’s facing a great risk, asking for the opportunity to fight “one more enemy” and then “return home” to his child. The preview shows him kneeling, holding Stormbreaker, and finishing a heartfelt plea with the words, “I beg you, father, hear my prayer.”
The preview ends by confirming Thor will be in Avengers: Doomsday. After that, the Avengers logo appears with a countdown to the movie’s release date. This new film will be the fifth Avengers movie and the third release in Marvel Studios’ Phase 6. It will center on a massive battle across the multiverse, with Doctor Doom – played by Robert Downey Jr. – as the main villain (according to The Direct). Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.
