Many people celebrate the new year with traditions like the Times Square ball drop, watching Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen’s fun broadcast, or setting off fireworks. But Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had a different approach: he spent New Year’s Day working out and sharing his thoughts on life with his fans. It seems like a really inspiring way to start 2024!
The actor known for Moana shared a New Year’s Eve gym video on Instagram to kick off 2026. He wrote that his final workout of the year was challenging – he even said he was really pushed to his limits! This inspired him to share some of his thoughts, and he began with:
You’ve probably heard the saying that your rearview mirror is small and your windshield is large for a reason. It’s a reminder that while it’s important to learn from the past, we should focus most of our attention on the future and what lies ahead.
It’s a good reminder, even though I’ve heard it said before: focus on the future, not the past. Dwayne Johnson has a lot to be excited about right now, with the fourth Jumanji movie currently in production and a Golden Globe nomination in 2026 for his performance in The Smashing Machine.
This prompted the Jumanji actor to share another insightful idea about the benefits of remaining both humble and driven. He referenced a sign in his gym – visible in the video – that reads “Stay humble, stay hungry,” and explained why adopting this mindset is so helpful.

The actor shared a guiding principle that’s really important to him, though he admitted he’s not usually one for philosophical statements. He wanted to emphasize this one idea in particular, and then went on to explain it further.
It’s easy to forget how valuable being humble and kind truly is, especially as we go through life. While it’s good to be important, being kind is even more so. Kindness, humility, and simply being nice are all connected, and I believe kindness is what really makes a difference in the world. These qualities are timeless – they never go out of style.
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson emphasized that a strong work ethic and drive will always be valuable. He circled back to his main message, encouraging everyone to remain humble and ambitious, to focus on the future, and to appreciate what they’ve already achieved. He concluded his remarks with a final thought.
How’s that for philosophizing on the very last day of 2025? Alright, happy new year, my friends.
We often hear about Johnson’s fitness plans and dedication to working out, but it’s also apparent he prioritizes his mental well-being. Overall, he’s a great role model as we start the new year, and I’m really looking forward to his future projects.
As previously mentioned, Jumanji 4 is scheduled to be released on December 11, 2026, and filming is currently underway. Dwayne Johnson is also set to play Maui in the live-action Moana, which will be released on July 10th. He has a busy year ahead! I’m confident he’ll approach it with the same dedication and humility, and I think we all should do the same as we look forward to the year ahead.
