In 2025, the animated series titled “Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires” (originally called “Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios” in Spanish) is set to showcase three formidable villains from Batman’s rogues gallery. This intriguing project, initially unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, brings together Warner Bros. Animation and Mexican animation studio Ánima Estudios to reimagine the Dark Knight within an Aztec historical context. The new Batman, grounded in Aztec culture, will grapple with distinct adversaries drawn from his heroic counterpart’s rogues gallery.

The story revolves around Horacio García Rojas’ Yohualli Coatl, a young Aztec noble, whose life takes an unexpected turn when his father meets an untimely demise.

Two-Face / Hernán Cortés

In HBO Max’s new animated Batman series, Hernán Cortés will be the main villain, adopting the character of Two-Face within this universe. Drawing inspiration from actual historical occurrences, Cortés directs a group of conquistadors to invade Aztec territory, aiming to seize control for his own Spanish people.

After an encounter with the portrayal of Catwoman in this film, the feline antihero viciously scratches Cortés’ face, leaving it scarred and splattered with blood. Following the battle, he adorns half a helmet on the left side of his face to resemble Two-Face’s imagery typically connected to Harvey Dent in DC Comics. He is anticipated to seek vengeance against Batman and Catwoman with fury as his troops expand their control and authority over the emerging world.

Joker / Pedro de Alvarado

In this version of Aztec Batman, it’s widely recognized that the Joker serves as a significant antagonist, and in an interesting twist, he’ll be known by the alias Pedro de Alvarado instead of his usual identities like Arthur Fleck. Stepping into the shoes of the iconic Joker, I don a striking visage – white-painted face, crimson lips, and an expansive grin. The details of my part remain veiled, but one thing is certain: with the restraints of sanity loosening, chaos and devastation are imminent. My unleashed madness will undoubtedly rattle the young Yohualli Coatl and his people, as I bring a touch of anarchy to their world.
